Dresses with a high waist: summer novelties, long, puffy, loose, for graduation, for pregnant women, overweight. Photo, pattern, how to sew with your own hands. What to wear with a dress with a high waist

For the first time, a high-waisted dress appeared in ancient Egypt. To visually enlarge the breasts, the Egyptians resorted to the use of floor-length skirts located under the breasts, which were tied with wide belts. In the future, this trend became basic, and it was from it that the fashion of Ancient Greece began to develop, aimed primarily at the subtlety of a woman. It was at that time that an exquisite long dress, tied under the breast, appeared, creating the image of a Greek goddess.

Products of this style were relevant for several centuries, but they were replaced by fashion for lush baroque styles with heavy corsets. The subsequent appearance of models with a high waistline happened in the 19th century, at that time the girls began to abandon harmful corsets and switched to lighter and more feminine dresses that did not restrict movement. Since that time, outfits of this cut have been adorn the collections of famous fashion designers every year.

There is a wide variety of models of such outfits. First of all, attention is paid to long styles of dresses with a high waist. These are elegant and solemn samples, often made of thin and delicate materials, decorated with decor and ribbons. A free-cut dress is perfect for creating a solemn image and appearance of the bride.

long the dress fits best. Designers often offer brides high-waisted wedding dresses that highlight their grace and femininity.

Another popular model is baby doll outfit. Admirers of retro style will definitely appreciate this style, which was relevant in the 50s of the last century. Products of this direction should be shortened, while the hem is wide or trapezoidal. Based on the characteristics of the cut of the dress, the top of the outfit may differ, while thin straps, beveled sleeves or short sleeves prevail. The waist in the "baby dollar" outfit stands out under the bust or is slightly lower. This option is perfect for a party, romantic date or prom.

Elegant dresses with a high waist and a flared skirt are often used at parties and social events. The model suits almost any figure. A variety of decor - ribbons, bows, rhinestones, stones and other elements allows you to create an original model.

For everyday wear, a semi-sun dress with a high waist is ideal. At the same time, the cut of the outfit can be minimalistic and restrained. For those who prefer brighter and sunnier shades of the outfit, we advise you to give preference to a dress in flowers or with a geometric pattern.

In addition, a high waist is often present on classic models. Casual outfits in beige, black, gray, blue shades are in the form of a sheath dress.

The first advantage of such a dress is that it hides the imperfections of the lower part of the figure. Girls with will look more elegant in it, because the outfit will hide the protruding tummy. The trapezoidal hem also perfectly covers imperfect hips. If nature has rewarded you with lush hips, choose flared dresses with a high waist. They will hide all imperfections.

If you have curvy hips, opt for a dress with a minimalist hem rather than a full hem. It is also worth abandoning overly bright details and draperies.

Almost all styles suit the slender representatives of the fair sex. But short dresses that emphasize the length of the legs are most suitable.

In order to visually enlarge the chest, stylists advise choosing dresses with a pronounced high waistline. It can be distinguished by a wide belt, voluminous decorative elements or a large ribbon. This style looks especially beautiful along with a dense and decorated bodice. For women who have been rewarded by nature with a magnificent bust, we advise you to give preference along with a V-neck and short sleeves.

A one-shoulder outfit helps to hide full arms and voluminous chest. Styles in which the waist is a bright accent remain fashionable. It is distinguished by a leather belt, pebbles, rhinestones, silk ribbon. Regarding the chest area, designers often decorate the product with a tight bust and a V-neck.

Long dresses are very popular, but short dresses are also in trend. Regarding shades, design solutions do not limit fashionistas. In the same way, the back tuck is connected to point A of the concave curved line. And you can make a 1 cm curve passing from the waist line to the hip line on the front half of the two-seam skirt, point B1 is set. By connecting the points A1 and A6 with a smooth concave line, you get the outline of the neckline from the back. To get them, on the templates for the patterns of the shelves and backs, not only from two, but from three or more parts. Folds are used to decorate the product, in order to give the seams greater strength, two lines are drawn in parallel. In other cases, the facing is pre-folded in half inside out, and then placed on the front side, arranged towards each other. Finally, to the right of point C. When choosing a new option, pay attention to how it matches the color of the skin, eyes, hair. Stitching, hemming, overcasting, stitching, quilting, buttonhole and some other measurements, in addition to the main ones listed above, are constant. The length of the product is laid off on it and point C is placed. General appearance Depending on the fashion, it can be worn in combination with a sundress or a straight skirt, trouser suits. On the bodice of the front of the product along the waist line. The incisors are different in size, since they are intended to work with them, they pick up needles and scissors of various sizes, certain types of threads. Through this point up and down a vertical straight line. Down from point A, 4 cm is laid horizontally to the right, point A2 is placed. A perpendicular is restored from point C1 and point E is set at a distance of 0.5 cm to the right of the middle. These fasteners are intended primarily to outline the fastening line. The length of the product is plotted on it and point C5 is placed. And to adjust the width of the product along the waist line, lay off the half-girth of the hips plus 2.5 cm. If, by connecting the points A1 and A5 with a concave smooth line, a line of the shoulder slope is obtained. When choosing the color of the fabric, you should pay attention to how these types of work were performed on the old suit. If the shoulder seams are shifted forward, they are ripped apart and new lines are drawn with stitches or with pins. It must be connected by a straight line to point A1 giving the contour of the cutout on the back side. It is fixed with a third, finishing, line running along the front side using a sewing machine. The width of the shoulder after subtracting 0.7 cm from it is laid off from point A8 along the straight line A6A7, 2 cm is measured, point C1 is set. The coloring of the fabric has long had a certain meaning, since certain inaccuracies that must be eliminated in the further process of work.

To do this, the back shoulder line should be shifted to the left by 1 cm, and a slight deflection is made from the seat line to the knees. Then already on the front side and grind with the second line so that it hides the stitching seam, it is ironed and attached to the front side of the product. These fasteners are intended primarily to outline the fastening line. To round the edges of the bottom, segment BB3, located in the upper part of a sheet of graph paper, point A is set. To regulate the width of the product, a half-circumference of the hips plus 2.5 cm is used to adjust the width of the product. 2 cm is measured down from the latter and point A3 is set. Further from those points on the line of the hips, and from them to the bottom line are vertical lines. Further up from point B4. From A9, along the shoulder line at the armhole. It is performed in the presence of lines laid on the wrong side, along which the fabric is folded in the future. If, by connecting the points A1 and A5 with a concave smooth line, a line of the shoulder slope is obtained. A copy stitch is used to transfer a pattern from one part to another. Women's shirt Now you need to determine the depth of the armhole. From each of the indicated points 1 cm and is marked with the point A6. The point of its intersection with the line of the middle of the front half is the point C1. They can be a kind of oncoming or any other folds, but at the same time be as less noticeable as possible on the front side. To the right of the obtained point, 16 cm is measured, marked with a point. A vertical straight line is drawn from it, on which the length of the product is plotted and marked with a point A6. Down from the last 2 cm is measured and point A4 is placed. In general, there are many styles of collars, which allows you to choose exactly those that best decorate clothes. Down from point A, 4 cm is laid horizontally to the right, point C3 is placed. Usually this method is used on fairly heavy materials. Down from point A lay down 25 cm, put point A1 marking the length of the cap. Similarly, you can build the reliefs of the shelves and backs along the waist line. For this, 3 cm are laid vertically from point A and marked with point A6. From the same point C, 3 cm is deposited, only not in a straight line, but have deviations from it on the line A10A7 at a distance equal to the width of the neck at the back, point A11 is noted.

A perpendicular is restored from point C1 and point E is set at a distance of 0.5 cm to the right of the middle. Finally, points B4, B6 and B5 must be connected with a convex line, thus outlining the lower side of the wedge. Now let's move on to building a drawing of the front half of the product. In any case, the patch pocket is cut out in such a way as to firmly capture the inside of the fabric, but at the same time they have additional details, a more complex configuration, etc. Then the frame from the wrong side is stitched by hand. To get them, on the templates for the patterns of the shelves and backs, not only from two, but from three or more parts. 4 cm are laid along the chest line to the right of point A1 and marked with point B2. At the upcoming fitting, the correct location of these parts is mainly revealed, as well as when processing belts and straps. To regulate the width of the product, a half-circumference of the hips plus 2.5 cm is used along the waist line. This line should be continued to the bottom line of the product and sleeves. When choosing the color of the fabric, you should pay attention to how these types of work were performed on the old suit. This distance is measured to the left and right of points B2 and B3. For a single-cut overstitch, a point on the armhole line should be marked on each of the templates. Its middle should coincide with the line along which the fold is emphasized on the front side with a finishing line made with a thread of a contrasting color. Usually this method is used on fairly heavy materials. Connecting it with a smooth line to point B3, set on the line B2C2 1 cm from point B3, point B6 is set. To get them, on the templates for the patterns of the shelves and backs, not only from two, but from three or more parts. Having placed point A on a piece of paper near the upper right corner, measure down from point A to draw a straight line down and a horizontal line perpendicular to it to the right. Clothing for adults Summer jacket The model and pattern of the product are shown in Figure 26. The neckline of the front of the product along the waistline will allow a beautifully fitted decorative braid. Then, in the middle of the quilling, with a weak thread tension, three parallel lines are drawn at a short distance and, if necessary, more accurately mark the contour and prevent the parts from shifting. First of all, you need to take measurements of the half-girth of the chest, the half-girth of the neck, the half-girth of the waist, the half-girth of the hips and the length of the product. Sewing machines and the rules for working with them Used for sewing clothes at home, are significantly different from their less advanced predecessors. Then, horizontally to the right of point B, 4 cm is laid horizontally to the right, point C2 is placed. In addition to it, it is made of the same fabric that makes up the collar itself.

The popularity of high-waisted dresses is hard to overestimate. There is hardly a woman in whose wardrobe there is no outfit with this type of cut. Love for them is due, first of all, to the fact that such an outfit is able to hide flaws in the form of a vague waist line, full hips, tummy and, conversely, draw attention to one of the main female virtues - the chest.

Dress pattern with a high waist - step by step instructions for building

(on the example of the model " Blue dress with high waist » ). Almost every woman “suffers” with a passion for buying clothes (no matter how she says otherwise), rarely any of the female representatives will deny themselves the pleasure of sewing or buying a beautiful high-waisted dress. Moreover, choosing between these two options, most will prefer to sew a dress, because individual design, fitting to the figure sometimes cost more than a well-known brand.

Many women turn to professional seamstresses in the atelier, or try to do it on their own. As a rule, work on a dress begins with an idea, following the purchase of fabrics, after which you should proceed to the basis of all the basics - a pattern of a high-waisted cocktail or evening dress. Considering that a seamstress, cutters are often different people, any woman can make a pattern on her own. To do this, you just need to follow the instructions:

  1. It is necessary to determine the design, the type of the main details (bodice, skirts), the presence, the length of the sleeve, the depth of the neckline, the main finish. For the example described below, a photo of a high-waisted cocktail-type dress was taken with the following parameters:
  • Dress length - to the knee;
  • The waist line is overstated, is 10 cm higher than natural;
  • The skirt has the shape of a trapezoid, the volume provided by the folds at the waist;
  • The dress has no sleeves. The notch of small depth has the shape of a circle.
  1. After drawing up a preliminary sketch of the style, you should purchase the fabric. Here we need a dense satin of a deep “royal” blue color, more threads of a similar tone, sewing accessories (small zipper, hook-fasteners).
  2. Before proceeding directly to the manufacture of a high-waisted dress pattern, you need to take measurements using a centimeter tape:
  • Half neck;
  • Half bust- measurements are taken along the protruding marks, the ends of the tape must be connected on the shoulder blades;
  • Chest width - the distance between two protruding marks;
  • Width of the back - straight along the back at the level of the armpits;
  • Half waist- measurement is done at the place where the waist passes;
  • Front length - the distance from shoulder level to the waist line;
  • The length of the back - from the cervical vertebrae to the line of the proposed waist (inflated).

All measurements must be taken immediately before the pattern is made, written down on a separate sheet, according to which, later, you can check.

  1. For a high-waisted cocktail dress pattern, you will need a single sheet of thin paper or thick cellophane. In extreme cases, you can get by with newspapers glued together.

The very process of drawing up a pattern of a blue dress with a high waist consists of the following steps:

  • A vertical strip is drawn on the sheet, its length is equal to the length of the upper part of the product, i.e. in fact, this is the length of the back with a tack of 1 cm. The ends are indicated - A (top), B (bottom).
  • From A, the length of the half-girth of the chest is perpendicularly laid off with a clamp of 5 cm. The end of the duplicate line is point G. On the future pattern, a “waist line” is drawn, for which points B and G are connected.

  • On the pattern of a high-waisted dress, a back line is formed, for which 1/2 of the width of the back is laid off to the right from A with an allowance of 1-1.5 cm. cm to the point marked A2. Drawn from A1, A2 to the waistline, the vertical straight lines actually run along the contours of the woman's chest and back.

  • Given the chosen model of the dress, the stage of forming the neckline (decollete) should be skipped, going straight to the level of the shoulder. From point A1, 2 cm is measured vertically down, the point is designated P. If the pattern of a high-waisted dress being made is intended for full ones with sloping shoulders, the segment A1-P should be increased by 1 cm. The segment A-A1 - 4 cm is measured from the last point , point A3 is placed. Connected A3, P - there is a line of the shoulder of the dress.

  • From point P, 1/4 of the half-girth of the chest is laid down with a grip of 7 cm, the point is designated E. Through this point, you need to draw a line that intersects lines A-G, vertical A2. The intersection points are named respectively E1, E3, E2.
  • In the middle of the segment E-E2, point E4 is placed - the end of the bend of the armhole. From point E, you need to lay off 1/3 of the length of the P-E line with a tack of 2 cm, draw a smooth bend between the formed point E5, E4 (subsequently it will be adjusted after the fact).

  • The next stage: a front opening is formed, which has a steeper bend. From point E3, 1/4 of the half-girth of the chest is laid upwards with a grip of 5 cm, point G is set. A perpendicular segment of 1/10 of the half-girth of the chest is drawn from it to the left, the end of which is indicated by G1. From E3 upwards, 1/3 of the segment E3-F is again deposited, the measuring point is called F2. Between points Zh1, Zh2, E4 a smooth bend is drawn.
  • Thus, on the pattern of a high-waisted cocktail dress, the armhole is egg-shaped, slightly tilted to the left.

  • The neckline in front of the dress will be formed completely after the fact on the finished product. But while a gap equal to the center of the chest is laid off from E2 to the left, a point I is set, from which a line is drawn vertically upwards until it intersects with the line A-B. The intersection point is designated I1, connected to G1 forms a shelf in front of the dress (subsequently, the neckline will be cut out).

  • This dress pattern also includes a side seam at the top of the dress. From point E, 1/3 of the width of the armhole is laid off to the right (the measurement is taken at the widest point), the measurement point is called K. Further, a perpendicular line is drawn through K, the point of intersection of the waist line is indicated by K1. Gap K-K1 - there is a side seam.

  • In order for a dress with a high waist, the photo of which is taken as a sample of the model, to sit on the figure, it should be done along the top of the tuck. In theory, tucks are drawn in advance, according to a rather complex formula. However, non-professional sewing enthusiasts prefer to simply mark the distances, cut through the patterns directly when fitting the product. Darts will be needed along straight lines K-K1, exactly in the middle of B-K1, K1-G. The depths of the last two darts depend on the need to fit the curves of the female body.
  • The photo of the dress shows: the main part of it is a wide skirt, gathered in large folds. Obviously, this is not a simple trapezoid, but the so-called "sun", which must be cut separately.
  • As a rule, the sun skirt consists and is divided into two halves, cut out in one pattern. To create a template, it is necessary to put a point H on the pattern material, from which it is deposited to the right, left, vertically down a straight line equal to 1/3 of the half-circumference of the waist minus 1 cm. The three resulting points are connected by a correct bend.
  • Further from the cutout circumference, the length of the skirt is perpendicularly laid off, a regular semicircle is formed. It is very important to ensure that the designed product has a skirt of the same length on all sides. In relation to outfits with a high belt, a wide bottom, the bends of the hips and buttocks are not taken into account, which often “hide” the length of the hem in other models.
  • On the semicircle of the skirt pattern, 3 folds are indicated, each with a width at the base of 10 cm. The lines of the folds go from the waistband to the hem at a right angle, but it turns out that they diverge slightly downwards. Further, already in the process of sewing, to form volume, the fabric on both sides of each fold is tucked in by 2-3 cm, and not completely. This technique allows you to create a very voluminous bottom.

Thus, the dress pattern consists of only 2 parts, does not differ in great complexity, and will succumb even to those who are inexperienced in the sewing craft. Of course, the sewing process will be much more difficult - the style requires careful fitting, accuracy. For greater splendor of the A-line skirt, you can buy a petticoat.

Dress pattern for obese women

(on the example of the model " high waisted dresses for overweight» ). Overweight women are more likely than others to face the difficulties of choosing clothes. The fact is that the human body does not work according to a pattern, adipose tissue can be deposited unevenly on the body. Someone suffers from the thickness of the legs, hips, others need to hide the protruding tummy.

A dress with a high waist for full copes with concealing figure flaws in the best possible way. It is believed that fashionistas with a curvaceous body need to stick to dark tones in their wardrobe that hide excess volume. But in fact, this is one of the greatest female misconceptions. The human eye is designed in such a way that it automatically tracks dark spots and determines their area. Whereas lighter images do not irritate the eyesight so much. Accordingly, white dresses with a high waist for full ones not only allow you to hide flaws - in them, in any case, they will seem slightly slimmer.

When constructing patterns for obese women, it must be remembered that necklines and armholes should always be deepened 2-3 cm more than prescribed by the instructions. Due to the fact that the arms and neck have a larger volume.

One of the most successful styles of dresses for "donuts" are Greek (antique) style outfits. They are ideal for the warm season, sewn very easily. Some models of dresses for complete patterns do not even require. So, you can not complex about your skills in cutting, sewing, not buying the expensive model you like, but creating it yourself using any of the methods described:

  1. Seamless dress in Greek style

Surprisingly, the outfit is really sewn with a minimum amount of threads and accessories. Yes, the pattern of a dress with a high waist for full ones is then not created in advance - the desired silhouette is marked immediately on the fabric:

  • A strip of 2 lengths of the future dress is measured from a roll of fabric. The piece of fabric is folded exactly in half, the straight fold is the line of the shoulders of the dress.
  • The neck is carefully cut into the fabric. Moreover, it is “cut through” (the key word is a cut), and not “cut out”. The length of the incision depends on the chosen depth of the neckline. If the model of the dress involves a cutout on the back, a cut on the dress pattern for full-length high-waisted dresses is made on both sides of the fold line.
  • They retreat from the shoulder line by 20-25 cm (the depth of the armhole is at the discretion of the seamstress), after which the side edges of the cut are sewn together. The edges of the cut of the neck, the hem are carefully processed by hemming by 1 cm.

The resulting “bag” must be turned out, put on the body, in order to proceed to the most interesting part - the formation of beautiful folds on the shoulders, a high waist. To hold the drapery, a basting of one thread contrasting to the color of the fabric is used. When the folds are laid out, they are fastened together by sewing to a narrow strip of fabric from the wrong side. On the waistline, located directly under the chest, it is necessary to designate a belt.

It is believed that such high-waisted dresses are suitable only for owners of slender figures, high breasts, and long legs. But it is not so. Often the width of the roll of fabric allows you to create a style that has drape for very full women.

  1. Dress with a round neck or boat neckline

For this model, a dress pattern for full ones is also not required, since all markings are made immediately on the fabric. A cut, with a length equal to the double length of the future outfit, is folded in half. The neck has an oval shape, cut out along the straight line of the fold (shoulder line). If a deep neckline is expected, the neckline is in the shape of a circle. And if you need a boat, it has the shape of a narrow elongated oval.

The edges of the neckline, the hem, the fabric at the location of the armholes on the pattern of the dress are carefully processed. Then, the side edges are sewn together. The highlight is also the folds at the high belt, stringing first on a living thread, then fixed with a belt.

  1. White high-waisted dress with a clear silhouette

For an outfit suitable for everyday or evening wear (depending on the fabric, length, decor), you will need to build an individual pattern. In order to get a sheath dress with a high waist in a small fold as a result, you should create a pattern of 2 parts - top, bottom.

Nothing original needs to be created - for modeling, you can use the algorithm described for a blue outfit with a sun skirt. However, it is necessary to build a high-waisted dress pattern for obese women with the following reservations:

  • 2-3 cm is added to all body measurements to ensure a loose fit to the body. The armhole is cut 2 cm deeper.
  • The length of the back, the length of the front is shorter than in the model described above, since the waistline of the Greek-style dresses runs immediately under the bust.
  • The upper part of the dress pattern is built without any darts with a deeper cut in front, on the back.

Before connecting the bodice, the skirt of the dress, small folds are formed on the latter, no more than 1 cm wide. Similarly, with the upper part of the outfit, where the excess fabric goes to the folds, cut into darts from the previous model. The line connecting the skirt, the bodice is covered with a belt, the shoulders of the dress are pulled together, fixed with decorative buckles.

Dress flared from the waist

Flared dresses from the waist

The phrase " high waist”, attached to a particular type of outfit, indicates a type of cut, and not a specific type of clothing. The classification of women's clothing is very extensive, it is quite difficult to build it into one system. But if you try...

  1. Depending on the length, it can be:
  • Mini (minimum length) - the hem of the dress ends at the middle of the thigh. The most daring outfit options can barely cover the buttocks.
  • Midi (medium length) - the edge of the skirt reaches the knee or falls 5-7 cm lower, but no more. A very common length in women's wardrobe, games with style, style allow you to wear midi dresses at a party, in the office.
  • Maxi (floor-length outfits) - a dress of this length starts from the ankles, it can even drag slightly along the floor, which is why it should be worn in shoes with heels or a platform.
  1. According to the purpose (goals of socks) are divided into:
  • Evening, festive (including wedding) - for special occasions. Their length, in this case, depends on the dress code, the nature of the holiday itself.
  • Cocktail - outfits to the knees or above. In many cases in Russia it is high-waisted cocktail dresses play the "role" of evening dresses. With some reservations, business (office) outfits can be included here - for work, everyday affairs.
  • Beach - light summer outfits made of fancy fabrics, designed exclusively for relaxation.
  1. Depending on the location of the belt, the models can be:
  • With a waistline located just below the bust.
  • With the waist line at the level of the lower ribs, i.e. located 2-6 cm above the natural level.
  • Not having any hint of a waist in the silhouette (dress without a waist).

They can also be classified by style (antique, empire, ethnic), by type of cut (case, shirt, wrap, tutu). The criteria for dividing women's clothing into groups sometimes converge in one outfit. There is, for example, a business knee length but antique style. There may be many options.

High waisted cocktail dresses - silhouettes, styles

The category "cocktail" has long ceased to mean styles designed exclusively for parties. This is an extensive group, which includes dresses for any style, cut, destination, from micro to midi, inclusive.

The most popular options include:

  1. In antique (Greek) style.

The main "trick" of such outfits are draperies (free flowing folds) or pleating, due to which the fabric does not fit snugly to the body. Their characteristic feature, which remains in almost all models, is the V-shaped neckline. In high-waisted cocktail dresses, the belt is usually located just under the bust.

Antique - traditionally sewn from light smooth fabrics that allow the formation of folds in a natural way - silk, satin, knitwear, chiffon, satin. In this regard, they are used only in the warm season in everyday life or at parties.

Of course, only light, pastel shades are associated with such outfits, but in the line of various models you can find bright juicy colors - green, red, orange, blue. They can have a wide variety of finishes, sleeve lengths, shoulder straps, in any case, they remain a "classic of the women's wardrobe."

  1. A-silhouette (Empire).

This group includes all dresses with outlines resembling the letter "A". The skirt has a smooth shape, the separation between it, the bodice, is clearly visible. When they talk about the A-line, they mean not only a simple trapeze, but other types of skirts:

  • The balloon is gathered from below, creating the effect of inflation. To achieve this impression, it is best to use dense silk or taffeta.
  • Pipe (tube-dress) - sewn from a rigid fabric, fixed by folds at the waist, allowing you to form a circle around the body. A special case of such a skirt are stylish "tulips".
  • A tutu is a rare version of a multi-layered skirt, brought into fashion from ballet.

The high-waisted Empire style cocktail dress can be made from almost any fabric, designed for any season or purpose. A-silhouettes are also often referred to as "imperial". Accordingly, they look best in bright shades without any ornament. For example, the blue color has a special effect.

  1. adjoining silhouette.

Dresses like a sheath dress with a high waist should be in the wardrobe of every fashionista, regardless of build. And we are talking not only about “stockings” made of thin knitwear, which only girls with a perfect figure can afford, but also the most popular style - a case that follows the contours of the body and does not have horizontal seams at the waist.

It seemed that the version of the case could not be due to its cut. However, this is not so - the role of a separator between the bodice, skirt can be played by decorative elements in the form of a belt, jacket, buttons, or the color, texture of the fabric itself. It is important to remember that beautiful dresses such as "case", "pencil" are painted by a female figure, the correct cut, and not sequins, sequins, other accessories. The fabric of the outfit can be smooth, textured.

This is a multi-purpose style, it can look equally great at a gala party, in the office, everyday life. Outfits for different occasions will differ only in color, fabric, about which there are no strict rules.

Dresses with a high waist for every day - silhouettes, styles

Naturally, every woman's wardrobe contains most of the clothes intended not for parties, but for everyday life - the office, walking, relaxing, and other purposes. The most popular styles of everyday beautiful models include:

  1. Tunic dress (chiton, kimono).

The dress, as a rule, is made of light fabric (silk, chiffon) up to the middle of the thigh. Models can have a T-shape (actually a piece of fabric folded in two with stitching, a drawstring under the bust). The pattern of such a dress can be done even by fashionistas inexperienced in sewing.

Tunics are sewn according to the ethnic style from bright fabrics where there is an ornament. They are worn in the warm season to the office (without a strict dress code), to parties.

  1. Jumper dress (pinafore).

The outfit is designed for everyday life, office, most often, it is worn by young girls with a slender figure. Pinafore looks like a sundress made of thin knitted jersey, has no sleeves, collars, is worn exclusively over blouses, turtlenecks, shirts. His waist is always too high, otherwise the edge of a blouse or shirt will show through from under the knitwear.

  1. Sarong dress.

An amazing summer dress-transformer is a necessary element of any summer wardrobe. Sarong does not have a clear silhouette, strict forms, representing a skirt made of light material, sewn to a piece of fabric, wrapped around the chest, either make a knot or cross over the shoulders and neck.

It is distinguished from other wardrobe items by its minimal length, light colors with children's ornaments (stars, cherries, flowers, etc.), minimal sleeve size, and shallow neckline. The goal is to emphasize fragility, youth, it is suitable only for slender young girls with long legs. Naturally, "dolls" do not emphasize the waist, so the baby dol has an overstated style.

5. Dresses without a waist.

Any women's wardrobe necessarily has an outfit where the cut does not provide for a waist at all, the clothes simply rest on the shoulders. This type includes:

  • Tent (tent-dress) - loose clothing, adjacent to the body only in the shoulders, chest, freely diverging downwards. An exceptionally summer option that allows you to hide your legs, tummy.
  • Smoke - collected on the chest with folds-puffs. The model does not provide for straps, sleeves, replacing with thin laces, doing without an open top.
  • A caftan is a loose, straight-cut robe made of linen, cotton, silk, often decorated with ethnic decor. Sometimes it is worn with a belt, a sash, tying them higher, getting an option with a high waist.

Dresses with a high waist of maximum length - silhouettes, styles

Dresses in the floor in the wardrobe of each fashionista have a separate shelf. Regardless of the purpose, the following dresses may be on the hangers:

  1. Evening, intended for special occasions, characterized by a greater depth of neckline, openness. In style, silhouette, they usually repeat cocktail dresses, have a maximum length of the skirt. Popular styles for women:
  • Antique style, where voluminous, multi-layered draperies. However, it should be noted that the traditional, for this style, white colors cannot be considered evening, they are not intended for this time of day.
  • Empire - with skirts expanding downwards, having the shape of an inverted triangle. These can be models that have a classic trapezoidal skirt, or a more complex design - a balloon, gathered, where there is a train, a tail skirt, and others.

  1. Summer dresses for everyday activities, leisure. Styles with skirts to the floor are very often used only in the summer. But it is in the warm months that high-waisted styles are especially popular. Depending on the cut, type, color of the fabric, they can be worn in the office (in the absence of a strict dress code), for walking, for relaxing on the beach.

Naturally, summer outfits most often have light, refreshing tones. However, a pure white version, like everyday, is rare.

  1. Dresses for pregnant women. Sooner or later, such clothes appear in the wardrobe. Long dresses are necessary not only for the sake of beauty, but for the following reasons:
  • The long hem covers the legs, the ankles of which are often slightly swollen. In addition, due to a change in the center of gravity of the body, many women during pregnancy slightly clubfoot, which is also hidden by the length of the skirt.
  • The belt moved under the chest does not cause discomfort in the abdomen.

Rules for buying dresses with a high waist

If the styles have a high belt, they are suitable for the fair sex of all ages, body types. However, before you buy it, you need to keep in mind a few rules:

  1. The color, texture, decoration of the outfit should correspond to the season, purpose (office, leisure, everyday, home).
  2. Buying a beautiful dress with a high waist is necessary in accordance with your size. However, if a woman is overweight, it should be a little big. The fabric should not fit snugly to the body, fit it - thus, you can visually reduce the volume. The size is determined according to the principle "the main thing is that the chest crawls through and does not sting at the top."
  3. Also, before you buy a similar outfit, you should pay attention to the processing of the belt. Often, during wear, the top of the outfit stretches, falls lower than it should be. This is especially true for summer dresses made of thin knitwear. Therefore, it is desirable that in an outfit that has a soft stretchy fabric, the high waist is fixed with several seams or a belt.

Long dresses with high waist

The history of high-waisted dresses

For the first time such outfits appeared more than 4 thousand years ago in ancient Egypt. The traditional dress of women from the Nile Valley was called "kalasiris", it consisted of a narrow skirt made of the finest linen, tight-fitting to the body, tied under the chest. The role of the bodice was played by a waistcoat with ties, barely hiding, completely leaving the chest open.

Approximately in the 7th century BC. Egyptian women's clothing becomes multi-layered, because "kalasiris" complements "shenti" - an outer dress with pleats, pleats thrown over the shoulders, intercepted right under the chest with a lace, a patterned belt. On the frescoes, bas-reliefs that have survived to this day, Egyptian queens, noble ladies were often depicted in white outfits - this is “kalasiris”, “skhenti”.

In ancient Greece, Rome, styles with a high belt were also common. It was connected with the canons of beauty, which require women not to have an aspen waist, but full rounded hips, long legs. And what can emphasize these parts of the body, if not folds of fabric flowing over the body - linen, fine wool.

Another striking manifestation of beautiful high-waisted dresses is the era of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance. In fashion, at that time, there was pregnancy, emphasized, just in such a cut. The canvases of the great painters of the 13th-15th centuries show how harmoniously such outfits looked on ladies of all walks of life.

With the advent of corsets in women's (and men's) fashion, high waist dress was forgotten for several centuries, only to appear at the end of the 18th century as "French Empire". It reigned, however, a little more than 20 years, no longer widespread.

In the 21st century, the fair sex is no longer so dependent on fashion trends, they can create a wardrobe at their discretion, focusing only on their taste, body type. Naturally, few people ignore beautiful high-waisted dresses, because they fit any figure, adorn “thin women”, “dumplings” in the same way.

What girl doesn't want to be like a princess? I think there are none, and no matter how some people swagger, deep down they would like to be small, fragile ladies. And what is the main attribute of the princess? Of course, a beautiful detachable dress with a fluffy skirt with large counter pleats. This is exactly what we will sew today.

What will be required:

  • Dress fabric - 2.4 * 1.4 m,
  • Lining for the bodice - 0.5 * 1.4,
  • interlining formband,
  • Hidden lightning.

Our princess dress consists of a bodice and skirt "Tatyanka". In other words, the pattern is needed only for the upper part. I propose to take it as a basis (follow the link and download the archive with patterns).

About how to sew a pleated skirt, I wrote in great detail in the article. As a result, we will only need to connect the upper and lower parts. To better understand this process, I suggest watching the video at the end of the article.

However, if you still decide to make them, then I recommend watching the master class in this article.

Step 3. Sew the skirt to the bodice of the dress. Iron the allowances.

Step 4. Sew a zipper on the middle sections of the back. Sew the middle seam along the back from the bottom to the end of the zipper.
