Automatic gas fire extinguishing freon 125. Automatic gas fire extinguishing systems with freon gas. Gas fire extinguishing Freon is used

All gas fire extinguishing systems have a similar design. Typically, AUGPs consist of:

  • modules, i.e. cylinders filled with fire extinguishing agent;
  • control units;
  • pipelines;
  • nozzles for releasing gas and distributing it throughout the volume of the protected room;
  • control panel.

Detectors - devices that respond to fire and are responsible for notifying about a fire, are also combined with the GP complex. Thus, the entire system is fully automated, functional, efficient and highly effective in fighting fire.

Where is gas fire extinguishing used?

If the first installations for extinguishing fires with gas were used mainly to protect sea vessels, then modern AUGPs can be found at many facilities.

In this case, it is the gas fire extinguishing agent that acquires the main importance. It will depend on the properties and characteristics of the gas whether it is possible or not to use AUGP at a given specific facility.

One of the most common gases used in AUGP today is freon 125.

Installations filled with freon 125 can be used:

  • in warehouses or production facilities where solid smoldering or non-smoldering materials and substances, textiles and rubber products are stored; flammable liquids;
  • in archives, libraries, money depositories;
  • in museums;
  • in printing houses;
  • in server rooms, data centers, computer processing centers, transformer rooms, telephone centers;
  • in cable structures.

Properties and features of freon 125

Freon 125 is a colorless gas (chemical name "pentafluoroethane", designated as R125). It has the following physical and chemical properties:

  • low toxicity;
  • non-flammable;
  • ozone safe;
  • molecular weight – 120 amu;
  • boiling point -48.5°C at atmospheric pressure;
  • liquid density 1219 kg/m 3 at 25°C;
  • vapor density 5.208 kg/m 3 under normal conditions;
  • own saturated vapor pressure 12.1 bar at 20°C.

If we compare freon 125 with other GFFS (freon 227ea, inergen, CO 2), it has the lowest boiling point, liquid density and the highest pressure of its own saturated vapors.

The properties of freon 125 regarding the physiological effects on humans and the environment are as follows:

  • LD 50 or semi-lethal dose, i.e. the average dose of R 125, which causes the death of half the members of the test group, is less than 70%;
  • NOAEL – level of non-detection of harmful effects – equal to 7.5%;
  • LOAEL – the lowest level of exposure to a substance at which a harmful effect will be observed – 10%;
  • ODP – ozone depletion potential is zero;
  • GWP – global warming potential (GWP) – is 3400.

The use of freon 125 is limited to those rooms in which people are present periodically, not constantly.

Features of fire extinguishing using freon 125

Freon 125, among other freons, is officially approved for use (SP No. 5.13130.2009). This substance has the following advantages in terms of extinguishing fires:

  • high efficiency - elimination of the source of combustion occurs within 10–15 seconds after gas is supplied to the room;
  • safety for electrical equipment, including valuable, expensive units;
  • relative safety for personnel - when the installation is triggered, you should hold your breath and leave the room, but there will be no negative consequences for health;
  • possibility of storage in a liquid state, which allows reducing the amount of space for GPU modules.

The fire extinguishing mechanism of R 125 consists of chemical containment, suppression of the combustion reaction. Once at the source of fire, the gas disintegrates, during which radicals are released and react with the primary combustion products. As a result, the burning rate instantly decreases until the fire completely disappears.

What is gas fire extinguishing? Automatic gas fire extinguishing installations (AUGPT) or gas fire extinguishing modules (GFP) are designed to detect, localize and extinguish fires of solid flammable materials, flammable liquids and electrical equipment in production, warehouse, household and other premises, as well as to issue a fire alarm signal to a room with round-the-clock presence of on-duty personnel. Gas fire extinguishing installations are capable of extinguishing a fire at any point in the volume of the protected premises. Gas fire extinguishing, unlike water, aerosol, foam and powder, does not cause corrosion of the protected equipment, and the consequences of its use can be easily eliminated by simple ventilation. At the same time, unlike other systems, AUGPT installations do not freeze and are not afraid of heat. They operate in the temperature range: from -40C to +50C.

In practice, there are two methods of gas fire extinguishing: volumetric and local volumetric, but the volumetric method is most widespread. Taking into account the economic point of view, the local volumetric method is beneficial only in cases where the volume of the room is more than six times the volume occupied by the equipment, which is usually protected using fire extinguishing installations.

System composition

Fire extinguishing gas compositions for fire extinguishing systems are used as part of an automatic gas fire extinguishing installation ( AUGPT), which consists of basic elements, such as: modules (cylinders) or containers for storing gas fire extinguishing agent, fire extinguishing gas filled into modules (cylinders) under pressure in a compressed or liquefied state, control units, pipeline, exhaust nozzles that ensure delivery and release of gas into the protected room, control panel, fire detectors.

OTV Freon 227ea

Freon-227ea is one of the most used agents in the global gas fire extinguishing industry, also known under the brand name FM200. Used to extinguish fires in the presence of people. An environmentally friendly product with no restrictions on long-term use. It has more effective extinguishing performance and higher industrial production costs.

Under normal conditions, it has a lower (compared to Freon 125) boiling point and saturated vapor pressure, which increases safety in use and transportation costs.

Gas fire extinguishing Freon is an effective means of extinguishing indoor fires, because gas penetrates instantly into the most inaccessible places and fills the entire volume of the room. The consequences of activating the Freon gas fire extinguishing installation are easily eliminated after smoke removal and ventilation.

The safety of people during gas fire extinguishing Refrigerant is determined in accordance with the requirements of regulatory documents NPB 88, GOST R 50969, GOST 12.3.046 and is ensured by the preliminary evacuation of people before the supply of fire extinguishing gas according to siren signals during the designated time delay. The minimum duration of the time delay for evacuation is determined by NPB 88 and is 10 s.

Isothermal module for liquid carbon dioxide (MIZHU)

MIZHU consists of a horizontal tank for storing CO2, a shut-off and starting device, devices for monitoring the amount and pressure of CO2, refrigeration units and a control panel. The modules are designed to protect premises with a volume of up to 15 thousand m3. The maximum capacity of MIZHU is 25t CO2. As a rule, the module stores working and reserve CO2 reserves.

An additional advantage of the MIZHU is the ability to install it outside the building (under a canopy), which can significantly save production space. Only MIZHU control devices and UGP distribution devices (if available) are installed in a heated room or warm block-box.

MGP with a cylinder capacity of up to 100 liters, depending on the type of combustible load and the filled flammable fuel, allows you to protect a room with a volume of no more than 160 m3. To protect larger premises, the installation of 2 or more modules is required.
A technical and economic comparison showed that to protect premises with a volume of more than 1500 m3 in the UGP, it is more expedient to use isothermal modules for liquid carbon dioxide (ILC).

MIZHU is designed for fire protection of premises and technological equipment as part of gas fire extinguishing installations with carbon dioxide and provides:

    supply of liquid carbon dioxide (LC) from the MID reservoir through the shut-off and starting device (ZPU), refueling, refueling and draining (LC);

    long-term non-drainage storage (DS) in a tank with periodically operating refrigeration units (RA) or electric heaters;

    control of pressure and mass of liquid fuel during refueling and operation;

    the ability to check and adjust safety valves without releasing pressure from the tank.

JSC "Rushimprom" offers for sale on attractive terms refrigerant 125 HP (pentafluoroethane) of its own and imported production. This product is used to extinguish fires in premises without permanent occupancy.

NAF S-125 (trade name) is a colorless, liquefied gas that is a flame retardant. The key features of pentafluoroethane are:

  • non-flammability;
  • low toxicity;
  • non-explosive;
  • ozone safety;
  • environmental friendliness.

An important advantage of freon 125 HP is its high thermal and chemical stability (the decomposition temperature of molecules is 900 °C), which expands the possibilities of using this gas in extinguishing fires. In addition, pentafluoroethane can be used as a refrigerant. Piston refrigeration compressors operating on this gas are characterized by optimal cylinder filling, which ensures a higher flow rate.

The NAF S-125 refrigerant offered by Ruskhimprom JSC fully complies with the requirements of TU 2412-043-00480689-96. Products are supplied to customers in cylinders, special containers or ISO tanks.

Freon

The most common gases used in fire extinguishing at present are freons 125 and 227ea. Studies have shown that the time of safe exposure of people to freons (even at concentrations one third higher than the fire extinguishing concentration) is at least 30 seconds, which allows for evacuation in most cases.

Therefore, they are usually used in SGP for rooms where people are constantly present.

In demand where the priority is the preservation of material assets that can be damaged by water, foam or aggressive chemicals:

  • art objects
  • archival documents
  • electronic devices

Freon 227ea is low-toxic for humans - inhaling freon vapors for several minutes will not lead to disruption of life.

HFC 227ea does not displace oxygen (as compressed gases do, diluting the atmosphere)

Freon 125 is as effective as freon 227ea. Just like freon 227ea, freon 125 does not damage documents and sensitive electronics, and therefore is actively used where careful handling of objects located indoors is necessary. Its advantages include excellent ability to extinguish smoldering materials, but it cannot be used in rooms where people are constantly present, as it is toxic.

No type of freon (including freon 227ea and freon 125) does not conduct electricity; this substance is chemically inert and does not cause corrosion, due to which it is classified as “pure gases”.

Freon 125 and freon 227ea are designed to extinguish a wide variety of fires:

  • class A (combustion of solids)
  • class B (combustion of liquid substances)
  • class C (combustion of gaseous substances)
  • class E in the initial stage of development (electrical installations under voltage up to 110 kV)

Freons have a relatively low storage pressure, making them easy to transport and store. That is, less space is required to install a gas fire extinguishing system based on them. The supply of refrigerants from the cylinder occurs under the pressure of a propellant gas, which can be nitrogen or dried air.

Carbon dioxide CO 2 (carbon dioxide)

A colorless gas with a density of 1.98 kg/m3, odorless and non-flammable for most substances. The mechanism by which carbon dioxide stops combustion is its ability to dilute the concentration of reactants to the point where combustion becomes impossible.

Carbon dioxide can be released into the combustion zone in the form of a snow-like mass, thereby exerting a cooling effect. One kilogram of liquid carbon dioxide produces 506 liters. gas The fire extinguishing effect is achieved if the concentration of carbon dioxide is at least 30% by volume.

Requires the use of weighing devices to control the leakage of fire extinguishing agent, usually a tensor weighing device.

Traditionally used to protect industrial facilities (only in premises where personnel are absent or can only be present periodically):

  • diesel
  • flammable liquid warehouses
  • compressor

Such facilities are characterized by intensive fire development due to the presence of class B fire load according to GOST 27331 (diesel fuel, oils, gasoline, etc.), cables, high-voltage electrical equipment, as well as a number of other features.

Cannot be used to extinguish alkaline earth, alkali metals, some metal hydrides, developed fires of smoldering materials.

A colorless and odorless liquid, sometimes called "dry water". Obtained by the 3M Corporation during research to replace freon 114 (banned in 1993). First demonstrated in 2004. This is a new generation gas used to extinguish fires, an innovative substance that is a safe and effective means of fighting fires.

Advantages:

  • safety and harmlessness to people (to a high degree)
  • safety for devices and equipment with electronics, documents, furniture and interior items
  • ease of transportation and use (without “dangerous goods” marking)
  • compact design of the fire extinguishing system
  • high degree of efficiency in extinguishing fire
  • You can refill gas cylinders (modules) right on the spot

Results

The extinguishing efficiency, subject to early detection of fire, for all gases used in AUGP can be considered equally high.

The main requirements that you should pay attention to when choosing a fire extinguishing system are:

  • high efficiency of extinguishing flammable substances present in the room
  • compatibility with materials and equipment (including electrical equipment) of the protected premises and safety for them
  • ensuring the safety of people in the protected premises
  • environmentally friendly
  • economic efficiency of spent material resources
