The most detailed review of miui 9

Despite the fact that the main operating system for most new smartphones is Android, many manufacturing companies are trying to wrap it in their own proprietary shell. What are the benefits of such an innovation? First of all, owners of mobile devices will have access to unique features that have a positive impact on performance, convenience and comfort when using the gadget. In addition, one cannot fail to note the visual component of the OS shell, which for many users is almost the main priority.

Xiaomi followed this path, releasing its MIUI shell, which became incredibly popular and in demand. Today, the current version of this utility is 8.2, which receives updates from time to time. But in parallel with the development of this version, work is underway on the next one - MIUI 9. Unfortunately, there is not enough information about the latest software from Xiaomi, but, nevertheless, we managed to get hold of several interesting facts that can lift the curtain of secrets.

With the release of the new Android 7, the following functions became available: split screen, picture in picture or PIP, as well as “free mode”. There is every reason to believe that the first two options will successfully migrate to MIUI Nine. Let's look into the details of these functions.

Give gifts

Split screen

When this mode is activated, the smartphone screen is divided into two equal parts, which can be used both vertically and horizontal position. Basically, this feature will allow users to perform multiple tasks at once, for example, viewing product catalogs in an online store and chatting with their friends. It is possible that the split-screen mode will be useful in other areas, but this will become known only after the release of Xiaomi MIUI 9.

Picture in Picture

This option allows you to watch video files without giving up other tasks. The picture will be located at the top of the screen, but you can change its location if desired. Viewing can be interrupted at any time, just press the pause or stop button. As with split-screen, this feature comes with huge benefits for regular users who tend to multitask. At the same time, developers can use this technology to attract a huge audience to their advertising projects.

Screen Recording

It is quite obvious that this feature will not cause such a significant stir as the first two. And all because a similar option is already present in another shell from Meizu - Flyme 6. However, the ability to record everything that happens on the smartphone screen will pleasantly please most owners of Xiaomi smartphones.

Separately, it should be noted that the new version of MIUI will differ from its predecessors in greater stability, performance and convenience. Based on this, the debate about whether to wait for MIUI 9 or not has resolved itself.

Considering that the final stage of development of this software was completed in June, then, most likely, mid-summer will bring extremely positive news for all owners of Xiaomi smartphones.

According to established tradition, those phones that came out relatively recently (Xiaomi Mi5, Redmi 4x, Mi Mix and others) will receive a fresh shell, and as for other, earlier ones, the update will affect only a certain number of devices. If the smartphone receives support for Android 7, then it will be included in the list of supported mobile gadgets that will be lucky enough to receive the brand new MIUI 9.

The international stable version of MIUI 9 has gradually begun to arrive on users’ smartphones.

The owners were the first to receive the new firmware, and last week users received the update. According to the company, more than 2.8 million smartphones have already been updated to the new firmware.

Xiaomi claims that MIUI 9 will increase battery life, optimize the system and improve the stability of the device as a whole. Let's talk about the main features of the new operating system.

Split-screen mode

Thanks to this mode, the user can open two programs at the same time. For example, you can check your email and watch videos on YouTube. To use the function, you need to open the list of open applications (click on the menu button) and click on the “split screen mode” tab, which is located in the upper left part of the display. Then you need to select the application and move it up.

It is worth noting that this function will not work on all smartphones, because it requires power and a display of a certain size.

New switches have appeared in the sound status bar, thanks to which you can immediately turn on silent mode for a certain period of time (from constant to 8 hours).

You can also enable Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. The new functionality allows you to customize it depending on your needs. For example, it can turn on automatically every day at specified hours.

Redesigned desktop

Xiaomi has also done a good job on the interface. In MIUI 9, the desktop has been completely updated - with icons and animation. The control panel has also been redesigned. Now from it you can go to widgets, select a new wallpaper for your desktop and go to “Settings”.

It is now possible to manage several applications simultaneously (move and delete). This is very convenient when you need to create a folder for a group of applications or delete them in batches.

Messages

The company has worked on this point as well. The type of messages has changed, now there is sorting by day. In addition, a special function was added that allows you to determine what exactly the user received - a message or a verification code.

Lock screen

Swiping right on the lock screen opens additional settings. There the user will be able to quickly access smart home applications (Mi Home), remote control (Mi Remote), Mi Pay, maps and flashlight. Payment system and Xiaomi cards do not yet work in Russia.

Notifications

If you receive a message from any social network or messenger, you can reply to it without opening the program. To do this, you need to pull down the notification shade and swipe down with two fingers on the incoming message and reply to it. By swiping left, you can mark it as “Unimportant.”

Gallery

A full-fledged photo editor has appeared here, which can replace many programs. In addition, in the gallery you can make a collage of several photos.

Icon animation

Although this is not the most important update, its arrival is quite welcome. Almost everyone system programs Now animated icons.

In addition to all these innovations, smartphones have significant speed and time battery life. Let us remember that on this moment Some features may not work on certain devices.

Article Description

Greetings, dear Mi fans! It’s been a while since I talked about firmware for Xiaomi smartphones. I want to correct this situation a little. About 1.5 weeks ago I received an update over the air. A new version The firmware number is 9.2.2. and when I received the notification, I thought that the difference with the previous firmware would be minimal. Think for yourself, the size is only 510 MB and the information only showed “fix bugs”, but how wrong I was. Some Mi fans have already written short posts about some innovations, but I would like to delve deeper into this issue. Well, let's go! 1. New screen. By this I mean that it is not the screen itself that has changed in any way in appearance, but that a new screen has been added, which is NOT displayed as a circle at the bottom. This screen reminded me very much of an Apple device. At the top is the browser search bar, clicking on which takes you to the Google search engine. There you can write a request or use voice search, it also displays the current weather in your city and popular interesting news that you can read on the go. In addition to the search bar, the additional screen contains the following panels: - Shortcuts; - Quick note; - Event. A little more detail about each. Shortcuts - here you can display up to 8 applications for quick and easy access to them. For example, I have almost all applications in folders, but in order not to search for what I need, I brought it to this panel and, if necessary, launch it through a new window. Quick note - need to write down the number of the girl you met on the subway? Have you come up with any funny poems? Then you simply go to this desktop, click “Quick Note” and immediately write down what you need. It’s quite a convenient thing, I use it from time to time. An event is, in fact, a regular calendar through which you can see your planned activities or the birthday of a loved one. Through this panel you can view all events and add new ones. I do not use this feature and, therefore, cannot give it any rating. It is important that all this can be edited! You can remove all panels and leave only the search engine, or the search engine + shortcuts. As a result, this screen will find its fans among users, but I don’t really need it. I'm glad that you can't see it until you scroll through it. But with my perfectionism and screen habit, I don’t really notice it.2. Camera app Appearance has undergone HUGE changes. Absolutely everything has changed. Now you select the photo/video mode by swiping, the flash and HDR mode functions are located at the top across the entire screen. What I really didn’t like about this is that when you turn on the flash or HDR mode, an additional one appears. icon below notifying that the mode is enabled. It blocks part of the camera's visibility. Not critical, but unpleasant (for me personally). Selecting a mode using a swipe is not bad, but it takes some getting used to. The camera, as such, began to take better photographs. Almost all the photos from the 4th meeting in St. Petersburg, which are posted in the report topic, were taken on Mi 6. On the previous firmware, the frames were noticeably worse. This upgrade of the camera undoubtedly pleased me.3. Location of information in settings Previously, to find out information about the phone, we went to Settings, went down and selected “about phone”. Now this tab is located at the top. Why? More on this below. There were no more changes as such. Earlier in the renderings we saw that the display of the battery, processor, etc. will be in the form of icons with explanations. No, everything remains exactly the same. became this tab above due to the fact that there is no longer a separate “Updates” icon and now you can check updates ONLY through the phone information. Because of this, the panel is raised higher and we have easier access. This change makes me neither warm nor cold. However, I think like many of you.4. Mi Video Yes, Mi Video finally appears in updates! This application has been awaited by many Mi fans and now you can enjoy it. I can’t say anything on my own about this application. I don't have video on my phone and I haven't tested this program in any way. If you have managed to appreciate all the delights of this application, then write your opinion in the comments. I will add the most detailed and adequate review to the topic so that other Mi fans can immediately see the information.5. Russification Previously, not everything was translated into Russian and quite often in the settings you could stumble upon individual words or even phrases in English language. Now this is gone, everything is in Russian! As an example: setting certain actions for the lower buttons (settings-advanced settings-buttons and gestures) were only in English, now everything is beautiful, neat and in Russian!6. Notification curtain I left the sweetest part for the finale. What I was incredibly happy about and really amazed me. I'm talking about notifications in the notification shade. Now there is not only text and an application icon, but also an avatar of the user who wrote or called you, and the ability to open the application or send an instant response directly from the curtain. Yes, I know, this could have been done before (swipe with two fingers on the notification and a response window will open). But now it has become MUCH more convenient and easier! By clicking on one arrow you can read the notification. One more arrow or button and you are already answering the person! I really liked this feature! Here are the main features that I noticed in the system update. Did you find anything else? Then write in the comments, we will discuss and complement each other, and also express your opinion on this update, although it is not yet available on all Mi 6. I hope that the article was useful and interesting for you. See you in the vast Mi Community!

Today, probably everyone has heard about the proprietary Xiaomi operating system based on the Android engine called MIUI. But not everyone saw it. And even more so, not all of our readers are familiar with its features and capabilities in detail.

Comparing iOS and MIUI directly is like comparing Audi and BMW. Therefore, you won't see this here. True Apple fans will already notice familiar features. What about the rest? Read and ask questions.

How MIUI led Xiaomi to success

In fact, first Xiaomi had its own operating system, and only then the smartphones that conquered the world.

Once upon a time the company specialized in the development software. To promote their own resources, including the newly developed shell based on Android 2.2.x, the creators of Xiaomi decided to release their own smartphone.

The decision turned out to be correct. Of course, Xiaomi did not plan to make money from smartphone sales. Therefore, devices sold at cost quickly gained popularity in the budget segment.

Together with them, the company distributed its services and operating system. And she organized fans into a powerful community of modders and beta testers who receive a certain profit for their work (I will talk about this in the next article).

Deep market penetration has allowed Xiaomi to experiment in other areas. First came the TV, then the Mi Home smart home application, and then the first smart devices that can be found at every turn today. All of them are united by a smartphone based on MIUI into a single ecosystem.

Thanks to a huge community and a large staff of developers, today the company releases MIUI updates weekly. Faster, any other brand, be it Samsung, HTC, Moto or Huawei. Therefore, Xiaomi's proprietary shell sometimes works better than Android options from A-brands.

Moreover, unlike them, Xiaomi updates the operating systems for all its smartphones. Almost all of the company's devices received MIUI 9, with the exception of several early models from 2013. That is, and budget Xiaomi Redmi 5a () for 6 thousand rubles, both the huge Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (review) and the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 () run the same version of the system. With the same capabilities.

Thanks to active work, MIUI acquired not only fans, but also its own, sometimes unique solutions. This is why I love this version of Android. And not just me.

Visualization, or why MIUI - iOS on the Android engine

MIUI became the first operating system (rather, a shell) based on Android that tried to copy the experience of iOS developers. Accordingly, it became one of the first Androids to disappear the system application menu.

Instead, all the shortcuts went to the desktop. Here they are sorted, put into folders and sorted - just pinch to open the settings. Additional screens can be added unlimitedly in all current versions of MIUI.

The new “nine” differs only in smart sorting - you can select several icons at once and send them to the appropriate desktop (they are shown at the bottom of the screen). The latter, by the way, can also be sorted.

Another small innovation in MIUI 9 is the widget preview screen. Oh, not every Android can do this - but in vain.

The dual-window mode, which appeared only in MIUI 9, has undergone additional improvements compared to stock Android. Firstly, by default the screen is divided in half - but the size of the window can be adjusted independently. You can also change places.

Secondly, for those applications that do not support scaling, you can enable the “Force split screen” option in the developer settings. On the test subject, this is the most useful function, turning the smartphone into a serious working tool.

The ninth version of MIUI received a modified curtain. Unfortunately, the bottom one, like in iOS, never appeared. But the top one is as close as possible in functionality to the one familiar to our readers. Right down to the design - it’s noticeable to the naked eye that Xiaomi has moved away from the Google-recommended Material Design.

Settings: anything is possible!

MIUI desktops, even in the latest version 9, no longer seem like an innovation today. Another thing is the system customization capabilities, incredible even by Android standards, without additional funds.

If owners of other smartphones have to get root and delve into the system settings, or even allow them to run suspicious applications to change the interface, everything is already included in MIUI 9.

Let's start with something simple. Everything that is visible on the main screen, in system applications and settings can be changed: fonts, click speed, size or number of icons, position of elements in the curtain, etc., etc. It's better to see it once.

In MIUI, you can change more significant settings - for example, the color and behavior of the LED indicator. Or set the operating time of the navigation key backlight and their purpose. You can do the same with other hardware keys: for example, force the volume rocker and fingerprint scanner to take photos without unlocking.

By the way, MIUI 9 now has full support for traditional Android gestures in the form of slides. And no less traditional on-screen assistant key. Is it necessary? At a minimum, in MIUI it is more convenient than in other versions of the Google operating system, since it is called up and hidden with a gesture. And not only in the depths of system settings.

Special opportunities for book lovers and grandmothers

Developers pay no less attention to various deferred actions. MIUI 9 hides a kind of IFFT logic. It is used to configure sound signals according to time, automatic backups, brightness settings and much more.

By the way, about the display: MIUI allows you to adjust not only the brightness level, but also the color temperature of the image. In addition, the system has its own blue filter called “Reading Mode”. With it, the gadget screen switches to a yellow backlight.

If necessary, you can go even further and enable the “granny phone” mode - a simplified interface. There is no desktop, and applications are displayed on the main screen in the form of huge shortcuts. Everything that doesn’t fit ends up in a separate application menu with slightly smaller icons. Alas, the feature is preserved only in budget Xiaomi devices.

If the granny phone mode seems uninteresting (however, with the sensor enabled using the “Work with gloves” function at full sensitivity, it can also be useful for the younger generation), interface scaling is the killer feature of all Xiaomi smartphones.

Slide over the navigation keys - and now, instead of the working area, a window of the specified size appears on the entire screen. The system in it functions as usual, without any changes. It's like holding a 3.5-inch smartphone in your hand.

Safety first

Sometimes it seems to me that MIUI 9 is the most sophisticated version of Android, not only in terms of flexibility, but also in terms of security. Protect both data and the system itself. Nothing will go unnoticed.

The coolest thing in my opinion was the combination of built-in elements for cloning applications. "Double Applications" creates a second version already installed application, which can be configured separately from the first one. For example, enter a different account or configure the interface in another way.

Second Space creates a copy of the operating system. In it, you can configure the interface differently, introduce certain concessions or restrictions. Overall, an excellent testing tool that can be used by any user.

Don't know how a program from an unknown source will behave? Launch it in the “Second Space”, and if necessary, kill everything with one blow.

There is also extended child control. With it, you can enter a guest profile, which is activated with one tap. Or introduce internal system restrictions that can be removed by entering a password or fingerprint: limit payments in applications, restrict access to applications, correspondence, or even individual functions.

The “Personal Data Protection” function can encrypt and password protect even individual photos and files. Encryption can be enabled for the entire smartphone.

MIUI 9 separates built-in and system applications into a separate category of settings. Everything that is not included here can be limited in any rights. Even if access to certain data is critical for the application. Disable GPS navigator? No problem! Deny dialer access to contacts? No problem.

The main thing is that each program can be given only the necessary minimum permissions, cutting off any willfulness at the system level. In fact, this feature works like an advanced firewall.

If you are afraid of surveillance, take a smartphone with MIUI 9 and configure each element yourself.

Storage and preservation

The backup system is no worse implemented. Standard Android only offers data backup to Google cloud. MIUI is complemented by reservation in the proprietary cloud service Mi Cloud. Here you can save not only settings, but also photos or programs for later restoration, even on another smartphone.

Finally, as a last resort, you can create local backups. However, their restoration is limited to the same model of Xiaomi smartphone - they may not work on a new device.

Within detailed description MIUI 9 cannot be silent about the Cleanup utility. It is located in the settings, but its work is comparable to a separate application for cleaning the device’s memory. It works quickly, cleans out garbage no worse than the vaunted Files Go from Google. So that!

Energy efficiency and optimization: the subject of major debate

Wide range of options for customizing application behavior is complemented by a proprietary energy saving manager. MIUI itself resets any non-system applications when there is increased power consumption. Many buyers, without understanding it, then say: “Skype and Viber don’t work for me!”

They require a little patience to make them work. Each program in MIUI 9 has a number of permissions for consuming resources and battery. For stable operation each of them must be activated in the background. Otherwise, the cunning Chinese hare will freeze your activity: Wi-Fi or cellular communications, GPS, mobile Internet. On the other hand, you can limit the number of programs running simultaneously.

To further save battery, the system filters notifications that wake up the screen. They can be turned off according to a schedule, or lists of unimportant ones can be set. These will not include ringtone and vibration. If this is not enough, you can set your own notification rules for each application.

If necessary, you can use ready-made energy saving settings and set the operating interval. But for DIY enthusiasts, Xiaomi offers the opportunity to create several of your own scenarios with detailed settings: which applications, when and how will work to save battery power.

What cannot be removed: Xiaomi branded services

The list of Xiaomi's own applications in MIUI 9 depends on the OS version: for Chinese it is one set, for international Global it is a completely different set. Despite the deep reworking of bare Android, Xiaomi did not stuff the international version of MIUI 9 with its own applications. Even so: there are fewer of them than any major manufacturers offering their shells.

Instead of many useless application stores and streaming services in Europe, the company left only a couple of programs for connecting with MIUI communities, a utility for wireless file transfer Mi Mover and a “Mi remote” for controlling home appliances via an infrared port, which is equipped with even the cheapest Xiaomi smartphones, such as How .

System applications, such as a dialer, an SMS client and a standard set of utilities like a calculator in MIUI 9 migrated from earlier versions of the operating system. It’s difficult to say anything special about them. Besides the fact that they work perfectly - and there is nothing superfluous.

The "Gallery" is of interest. It was in MIUI 9 that it became not just a photo viewer, but a universal program for working with any pictures. The developers specifically mention smart sorting, which seriously improves navigation.

But perhaps the most important advantage of the utility is ample opportunities editing. In principle, most users won't need anything else. Even integration with Mi Cloud is already in place.

Instead of conclusions: the quality of MIUI

According to personal feelings, MIUI 9 is currently the fastest and most pleasant version of Adnroid. Unfortunately, it is based on the seventh version of Google's operating system, and the transition to Oreo will not happen in the near future. What is the reason for this slowness, one can only guess.

It's probably not needed now. Xiaomi developers have optimized everything necessary, starting from the lowest level of the operating system. A smooth interface, fast visualization, and high loading speed were achieved using an optimized kernel and a fundamentally new way of working with files for Android: a new file system is used, the cache systematization has been improved, and real-time defragmentation has been added.

In addition, the creators of MIUI 9 have improved the dynamic memory allocation in favor of the most important (that is, more often and more used) applications. Due to the use of most system resources at the time of launch, the speed of loading applications from scratch increased noticeably. And it’s unlikely that anything other than “pure” Adnroid on Google’s own devices can compare with MIUI 9.

According to personal feelings, smartphones tested with MIUI 9 not only began to work faster. A huge one can finally replace a tablet - without a split-screen mode, the workspace was used inefficiently. Now it’s not only fast, but also convenient.

website This is what happens when you copy iOS correctly: forget about another Android!

Since August, Xiaomi has been conducting open beta testing of the new MIUI 9 firmware, which, according to the developers, is designed to be fast as lightning - they even drew a corresponding logo. Now both fans and critics of the phenomenon company are eager to find out whether the new MIUI has really become faster, and whether the device with it on board is more durable?

First of all, the Android version remains the same, and in the case of the Xiaomi Mi5 on which testing was carried out, it is 7.0 Nougat. The official beta version of MIUI 9 can already be downloaded from the official website for Xiaomi Mi6, Mi5X, Redmi Note 4X, Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi5, Mi5S, Mi5S Plus, Mi Max 2, Mi Max, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X.

Appearance and ergonomics

Default theme. At first glance, there are no changes: the theme is one to one as before, and nothing has been added to the “Themes” application. But if you go to “Settings - Themes”, you will find two new ones: pink “Fantasy” and dark “Midnight”.

Pre-installed themes in the Themes app

Pre-installed themes in the settings menu

There are some visual changes in the stock theme - these are animations. When minimized, the application no longer “dissolves” as before, but collapses into an icon, much the same as it is implemented in iOS. The designers added one more small detail - a funny animation of icons when minimizing stock MIUI applications: dialer, browser and others. This is what it looks like:

Lock screen and desktop - there are many more changes - and, frankly, very pleasant ones - that can be found if you delve a little deeper into the system. From the lock screen, swiping left still launches the camera - it remains the same. But swiping to the right now provides quick access to the flashlight and some applications. For now, these are only branded Mi services (of which Mi Remote and Mi Home are relevant for Russia for some devices), that is, the menu is not very useful, but it is possible that in the future it will be possible to install shortcuts and widgets of any applications there.

The desktop settings menu still opens with a pinch, and now there are only three positions: wallpaper, widgets and settings. Application icons in settings mode can now be checked and transferred from one desktop to another in batches. Moreover, you don’t have to wait at the edge of the screen with icons pressed down - an overview of existing tables immediately opens, and you can drop applications where you need them. In general, it's better to see it once.

Widgets are no longer huddled in the “basement”, but occupy an entire menu and are provided with a preview, so you no longer have to add each of the application widgets to your desktop to understand which one is best suited.

In the settings menu, you can select the style of flipping through desktops, and also, starting with the firmware version of August 31, designate the main desktop.

New features and applications

Multi-window mode appeared in the seventh version of stock Android, but the corresponding MIUI 8 update did not bring the long-awaited feature. But MIUI 9 already supports working with two programs simultaneously: all popular instant messengers, social network clients, browsers - in general, everything you need to be happy. Multi-window mode is enabled through the recently launched applications menu.

You need to click on the “Split Screen” inscription at the top, drag any supported application from the recently launched ones to the top area, and then tap to select the application for the bottom of the screen. You can return to the home screen - the top application will be minimized, and a somewhat awkward message “Tap to return to split-screen mode” will appear in the status bar. The same thing happens if you return “home” while working with two applications at the same time.

Applications work correctly in both vertical and horizontal orientation.

Finally, the windows are scaled: by default the screen is divided in half, but you can move the border, and then the window ratio will be 1:2. If one application opens the keyboard, the second one hides either at the top of the screen or under the keyboard. You can exit multi-window mode by simply moving the border between windows to the edge of the screen.

Reply to a message directly from the notification. Many applications have long offered this function, and now it is natively supported by MIUI 9: for example, when receiving an SMS, you can tap on the “Reply” button and, in fact, do it on the spot - you don’t have to exit the active application and open the messenger.

Silent mode. A small but extremely convenient improvement: when you change the volume using hardware keys, in addition to the corresponding slider, a button for calling up the silent mode menu appears on the screen. There you can turn off the sound or select the “Do not disturb” mode - forever (that is, until it is turned off by the user), for half an hour, an hour, two or eight hours. Thus, you can turn off the sound at night or during an important meeting many times faster than before.

"Unimportant" notifications. In MIUI 8, you could swipe almost any notification to the left in order to prevent the application that sent it from appearing in the curtain with one movement. Now this function remains only in the settings: the same actions send “discarded” applications to the “Unimportant” folder. By default, the function is inactive; it must be enabled in the notification and status bar settings - the “Notification Filter” item.

What could be, but is missing. Unfortunately, many of the functions and features expected from the updated firmware were not included in MIUI 9. For example, calling the context menu by long pressing the application icon has not migrated to it from Android 7 - perhaps it’s a matter of time. Also at the presentation of MIUI 9, a lot was said about the proprietary Smart Assistant, about launching applications in the Smart App Launcher context, a “smart” Gallery search algorithm... But all this is relevant only for China and is not present in the global version of the firmware. It is possible that something will be added to the full release, but you shouldn’t pin your hopes on it.

Speed and autonomy

The lion's share of attention at the presentation of MIUI 9 was given to the performance of the system. And for good reason: the speed of the interface and application loading has increased significantly. The interface has become noticeably smoother and faster, applications also began to load faster. How did they do it?

The creators of MIUI 9 have improved the features Google Android 7.0, in particular - dynamic memory allocation in favor of the most important (that is, more often and more used) applications. Due to the use of most of the system resources at the time of launch, the speed of loading applications from scratch has increased noticeably. We compared the speed of the same Mi5 on MIUI 8 and MIUI 9 and recorded the process on video. For clarity, we edited the video so that the applications were launched simultaneously, that is, if possible, we removed the human factor from the comparison.

In addition, the algorithms for clearing the system cache, various types of file garbage, and so on have been improved. Full list The changes “under the hood” can be seen in the illustration below.

In other words, statements that Xiaomi developers have seriously redesigned the internal logic of their own firmware can be believed. Compare the results of synthetic tests of the same Mi5, one of which has MIUI 8 China Developer Weekly installed, the other with MIUI 9 Global Developer Weekly.

But how things stand with autonomy is not yet entirely clear. The first version of the new firmware, dated August 24, caused a significant decrease in battery life: if previously the smartphone consistently had enough full charge for a day, then after the update, under the same operating scenario, it began to ask for a power outlet twice during this time. However, the update on August 31 returned everything to normal - obviously, work in this area is still underway, and it is too early to make a final verdict. Nevertheless, here is the result shown by the PCMark autonomy test on firmware 7.8.31:

Which devices will receive the update and when?

There is no official list of devices that will be updated to MIUI 9, but judging by rumors, the update will not reach Xiaomi Mi1, Mi1S and Mi2A smartphones, while owners of all other Xiaomi smartphones have every reason to expect an official firmware release at the end of September - early October of this year.

conclusions

The developers kept their main promise: MIUI 9 really functions faster than its predecessor. It is not yet clear whether the autonomy will still be as great, but the overall positive dynamics give hope that there will be improvements here too. The firmware did not take up more space on the drive: on the experimental Mi5 it was 10.73 out of 64 GB (including the OS). But it brought many useful and pleasant innovations - not everything we expected at once, but future updates remain.
