Making flowers from fabric with your own hands is not just a fascinating activity, it allows you to penetrate into the secrets of the highest harmony. And since it is not at all difficult to make a thing similar to a natural creation, this process will bring you great pleasure. Soon after you learn the technique of weaving fabric for petals and collecting them, your home will turn into a blooming garden.

Timeless floral fashion and its types

It is difficult to name a period of history in which artificial flowers were not held in high esteem. There are a huge variety of techniques for making flowers from fabric. People tried a lot, trying to achieve a resemblance to living buds: they used gelatin to give scraps of fabric a stable shape, made petals from bird feathers, wax-impregnated paper, and leather.

About five thousand years have passed since man, inspired by nature, decided to create the first man-made flower. But who exactly takes the lead is still unclear. The ancient Egyptians imitated fresh flowers using papyrus. Greek women wove silk flowers into their hair. The ancient Romans decorated temples with artificial inflorescences during special events.

The tendency of Eastern culture to inherit nature contributed to the widespread use of artificial flowers in Ancient China and Japan. Since ancient times, Japanese women have been decorating their hairstyles with silk flowers.

Sophisticated – Floral hair ornaments, known since Japanese Paleolithic times, became especially popular in the Land of the Rising Sun in the early 18th century. They are individual flowers or complex compositions that are attached to combs or pins. Based on the material and shape of this decoration, it was possible to determine the class to which its owner belonged.

The word kanzashi also refers to a special technique for making flowers from ribbons to decorate hairstyles. There are a huge number of options for folding fabric petals, thanks to which man-made flowers become very similar to real ones.

In Europe, artificial flowers are especially common as an addition to ladies' costumes or headdresses in the 18th and 19th centuries. Exquisite bouquets on hats or dresses near the neckline add additional femininity and sophistication to the look.

Today, many handmade productions of artificial flowers are located in France. The history of some of them goes back more than 1.5 centuries. Such ancient workshops have their own special secrets of making materials, which are carefully protected from prying eyes. Famous fashion houses work closely with outstanding flower artists.

As for the “hot method” of making flowers, which will be discussed further, it appeared not so long ago, because the synthetic fabric necessary for it was invented a little over 100 years ago. This method is based on the ability of synthetic fiber to “curl” and melt at high temperatures.

Secrets of the hot manufacturing method

The “hot method” is the easiest for making flowers from fabric. Petals made of synthetic organza, silk or satin are melted along the edge over a candle flame, then the flower is “assembled” from individual parts that are sewn together.

Such an activity requires a certain perseverance and accuracy, but this is by no means a hobby for a select few - everyone can master the necessary skills.

Some people prefer to improve their skills by copying fresh flowers - if you choose this path, you will definitely have enough inspiration for a long time - there are about 400,000 flowering plants on earth. Others come up with their own flowers. If you have enough imagination and good taste, this option is for you.

Creating flowers from synthetic fabric is not a labor-intensive process - it is more of a relaxation than a job. This activity helps you relax, relieve stress and forget about household chores. And the results of such creativity will delight you and the people close to you for a long time.

What you need for fabric floriculture

Another advantage of the hot method of making flowers is the minimal cost of materials. Before making fabric flowers, you need to prepare:

  • synthetic fabrics;
  • candlestick with candles;
  • scissors;
  • cardboard;
  • cutting pencil;
  • a small piece of thick fabric;
  • thread;
  • needle;
  • beads, beads, buttons for decorating the center of the flower.

How to learn to make flowers: master class

For synthetic flowers, artificial organza, polyester satin (wide satin ribbon) or silk are well suited. A combination of dense and thin fabric of the same color in one flower, or a gradation of shades when the middle of the flower is darker than the edges, or vice versa, looks impressive.

After the fabrics have been selected, you need to decide on the shape - for convenience, you can draw patterns for each of the flower bases. First you need to draw circles (at least 4-5) of different sizes on cardboard, then write the petals into them. After the patterns are cut out, you need to transfer them onto the fabric using a pattern pencil.

You can skip the pattern step if you are confident that you can accurately cut out the desired shape without them. You can avoid making petals at all, but make do with circles - then you will get a flower that resembles a rose. Thin translucent fabrics are best suited for such a flower; satin will look heavy and rough.

When making flowers from synthetics using the hot method, you need to adhere to the rule - the more, the better, regarding the number of bases. You can make 2-3 bases of the same size, or you can make each one different. But in the end there should be at least 8-10 of them.

After the fabric bases are cut out, you can proceed to melting the petals. To do this, you need to light a candle and carefully hold the base between the thumbs and forefingers of both hands and move its edge so that it slightly melts and curls.

There is no need to bring the fabric too close to the fire, as black soot will remain on it. Therefore, for the first test you should not take light-colored fabrics.

Next comes the final stage - you need to assemble the flower from the bases and stitch them right through the center. For the middle, you can use beads, beads, thin ribbon or just thread. You can carefully sew a piece of thick fabric to the finished flower on the back side to hide the stitches from sewing on the middle. If you plan to use your creation as an accessory, you can also sew a brooch pin onto it.

It is more convenient to make some types of flowers by cutting out each petal separately - dense fabrics are better suited for this method.

Beauty and Prosperity

Handmade fabric flowers look great on hair hoops, hats, and summer straw bags. They can be used in the manufacture and decoration of clothing. With such a simple, but at the same time sophisticated accessory, it is easy to emphasize your individuality and make your image more feminine and dreamy.

Now extremely popular. Just a few flowers that match or contrast with the curtain will transform it from an ordinary piece of fabric into a stylish piece of home decor. And tall cylindrical vases filled with fabric buds and petals will add elegance and chic to your living room.

It’s rare that a woman can resist the temptation of flowers - keep this in mind if you are thinking about making hand-made items for sale.

Evergreen bouquets on the tables of a cozy cafe or flower garlands on the summer terrace of a chic restaurant - perhaps you will be the first to take on the role of a good fairy, making the world around you more beautiful with the help of flowers.

They are no less beautiful than living ones, plus: they will not dry out, will not lose their appearance at the most inopportune moment, and will retain their original appearance, beauty and color for a long time. They can be placed anywhere, and the flexible wire stems can be easily shaped into any shape. They are fabric flowers, a real masterpiece of handicraft.

You can use fabric to make flowers that can be easily assembled into a wedding bouquet.

Wedding decoration with artificial flowers

Typically, artificial flowers at a wedding are used for:

  • and her wedding wreath, and, if necessary, also for her purse and hair clip;
  • and best man;
  • interior compositions.

For example, you can make such an original wedding bouquet from satin roses. Don't miss our wedding!

We make a delicate and stylish bouquet of satin roses with our own hands!

Below you will find how to make artificial flowers at home. Everything you need for this exquisite creativity can be purchased at a specialty store. You don't need much:

  • a set of rolls (these are metal balls on wooden handles to give the petals a convex shape);
  • knife for corrugating leaves and petals;
  • a spatula for curling the edges of the petals;
  • scissors, awl, tweezers.

All bouquets, both for the bride and her bridesmaids, are made of fabric.

These are all very easy to use tools.

To make fabric flowers we will also need:

  • a rubber pad on which you will process the flower details;
  • touch-up brushes and dye jars;
  • glass on which tinting is done.

You can’t do without soft wire for the stems, paper (preferably tissue paper) for wrapping them, and PVA glue (PVA-M latex glue). Salt dough or colored paraffin for pistils and stamens and aniline dyes for fabric may be required. And you will also need your imagination and creativity.

The most important thing is the right choice of fabric for the flowers that you are going to make with your own hands.

Important: It is easiest to work with natural fabrics (crepe satin, silk, crepe de Chine, chiffon). They stretch well and are easy to crimp. Synthetic fabrics have poor stretch and become deformed when the instrument overheats; working with them requires a lot of experience.

Let's make a very simple open semi-double pale pink rose from chiffon. The petals of this rose are almost flat, revealing the stamens. The diameter of the flower is 5-7 centimeters.

Some details for assembling a fabric flower

Preparing fabric for a flower

The fabric is pre-gelatinized. To do this, two tablespoons of gelatin are left to swell in a glass of cold water, then heated in a water bath. Apply this solution to a fabric with a brush and then hang it to dry. The dried fabric is ironed with a warm iron.

Fabric flower patterns

You can find ready-made patterns, but there is an excellent little-known method - we will share it with you: patterns can be made using templates taken from the outlines of fresh flowers. To do this, the flower is disassembled into individual petals, their outlines are traced on thick paper, cut out, and the pattern is ready.

Do the same with the leaves, but be sure to make a small boat-shaped protrusion 5X4 mm at the base of each leaf blade to attach the leaf to the stem. Using this method you can obtain patterns of any flower, not just roses.

Petals of a very convex shape, which do not lie completely on the paper, are outlined with some deviation from their shape.

They cut “on the bias”, tracing the pattern along the fabric with a ballpoint pen (red or green). A pencil is not suitable as it leaves a dirty mark. You need to cut, leaving a mark from the handle behind the outline.

Coloring the petals of fabric flowers

Shadow tint will make the flower more natural. It is made using the “wet” method: the petals are soaked in water, laid out on glass and the desired tone is applied with a brush. The leaves and sepals are painted green, the petals yellow - salad or salmon.

Shaping the petals

For this you will need boules. They are heated on an electric stove and the petal is processed on a soft pad, making it concave. There is another processing method, cold: the petal is placed on a piece of rubber and drawn with a curling knife from the edges to the center.

Making stamens for fabric flowers

These elements complete the complete resemblance to a living flower. Stamens are made from gelatinized threads, like fabric, and colored paint, into which the end of the thread, greased with glue, is dipped. The color can be replaced with melted wax. The number of stamens is 30-40 pieces.

The pestle is made from a ball of cotton wool attached to a wire, painted light green. The stamens and pistil are attached to a wire hook wrapped in paper and coated with glue.

Fabric flower core

A small button or cotton ball coated with glue will serve as the core. First attach a bunch of stamens with a pistil to it and start gluing the petals: from small to large, in a checkerboard pattern. Glue the green sepals last. Attach the flower to the end of the crochet stem.

For all work, use PVA glue; it does not leave marks on the fabric.

Fabric flower stem

It is made of wire entwined with colored paper shavings (strips of tissue paper 4-7 cm wide). The paper can be replaced with green thread. For strength, the stem is coated with glue or varnish.

Fabric flower leaves

The petioles of the leaves are made of flexible wire, covered, like the stem, with painted paper shavings. Glue each leaf blade onto a separate petiole, then use a hard rubber knife to apply veins to each blade. The petioles are collected into a complex leaf with one common petiole.

Ribbon flowers DIY designs have become popular decor. They are used to decorate clothes, bags, hair ties, and also to create beautiful flower arrangements. Modeling flowers from satin ribbons is a fascinating process, because different products can be made from the same material. In this article, we decided to offer several more master classes on making flowers from ribbons, which will be useful for both beginners and professionals.

Today there are many techniques for creating flowers, so everyone chooses the most suitable one for themselves. If you want to make a beautiful hairpin or brooch, use the following master class.

Materials:
- scissors;
— ribbons of two colors;
- ruler;
- glue.

  1. Take two ribbons of the same width, but different colors. Measure 10 cm with a ruler and cut off pieces.
  2. Fold two pieces of ribbon and fold the corner at one end.
  3. Now start twisting the ribbon like a snail shell. This way the bouquet will be formed.
  4. When the tape ends, grease the edge with glue and secure the bud.
  5. Start forming the base for the flower. To do this, cut 4 pieces of ribbon of the same color, 10 cm each, and 3 pieces of ribbon of a different color, 6 cm each.
  6. Grease the ends of the ribbons with glue and bend them towards the center. The result was blanks for the base of the flower.
  7. After this, you can stack the blanks on top of each other crosswise.
  8. Glue the bud from step 4 to the center of the flower.

The flower can be glued to a hairpin or used as decoration for gift wrapping.

Handicraftsmen often make roses from satin ribbons and use them to form artificial bouquets. How lush the flower will be depends on the length of the ribbon used.

Materials:
- ribbon;
- needle with thread;
- scissors.

  1. To get a medium-sized flower, take a ribbon 1.25 m long.
  2. Fold the top corner and sew it to the tape with two stitches.
  3. Now start rolling the tape into a roll, while not forgetting to straighten the edges. You can make only 5-6 turns and secure the ribbon with stitches at the bottom.
  4. After this, bend the ribbon at an angle of 45 degrees and wrap it around the bud. This is how rose petals are formed. Periodically sew the tape with several stitches.
  5. When the ribbon ends, fold the corners of the edge and hem them with a couple of stitches.

If you attach such buds to a wire, you can even form a bouquet for the bride. Roses will look beautiful as a room decoration and will be a pleasant handmade gift.

— ribbon with a gradient;
- wire;
- scissors;
- needle with thread;
- lighter or candle.

Master class with photos

  1. You need to insert a wire into the tape from the bottom side. After this, gather the edge with an accordion.
  2. Try to form a bud so that the edges of the ribbon meet, and trim off the excess.
  3. To prevent the tape from falling apart, burn the raw edges.
  4. Sew the edges neatly together. The result was a neat bud.
  5. This bud can be sewn onto clothing or used to create a flower arrangement. You can use green ribbon as a stem.

Using the same principle, you can make a lily of the valley from ribbons. Just take a thin ribbon, and to collect the lily of the valley bell, sew the underside of the ribbon with thread. Ready-made lilies of the valley can be glued to floral wire, and beautiful leaves can be made from green ribbon.

Making small flower petals from ribbons can be difficult, so the craftswomen came up with the idea of combining the kanzashi technique with isothread.

Materials:
- a small board;
- cloves;
- tapes;
- scissors;
- glue;
- accessories for brooches.

MK original flowers from ribbons

1) Handicraft stores already sell ready-made forms for weaving ribbons using the isothread technique, but you can make it yourself. To do this you will need a small piece of plywood or chipboard, small nails and a compass.

2) Draw a circle on the plywood and then divide it into equal parts. Now drive in the nails at equal distances. You should get two circles: inner and outer.

3) First, wind the ribbon in a large circle, creating petals. After this, proceed to the small circle. You need to wrap each petal with ribbon so that it does not fall apart after the flower is removed from the mold.

4) You can remove the tape from the mold and straighten out any curled petals.

5) Now make another flower, but use only the outer circle.

6) Ready-made flowers can be glued onto a plastic arc or cardboard. To prevent the details from standing out, wrap them with ribbon of the same color as the flowers.

Master class 1. Simple roses made of fabric in country style

If you like, or rustic, then this master class is for you. Below are examples of the work that you can do after mastering the technique of rolling roses from fabric.

You will need:

  • Textile;
  • Scissors;
  • Hot glue gun.

How to make a rose from fabric:

Step 1: Cut the fabric into ribbons. To create one rose you will need one strip 50-70 cm long and about 3-5 cm wide. However, you can choose other sizes if you want to make the rose larger or smaller than in this project.

Step 2: Fold your strip in half and place a 1.5cm bead of glue on the tip (see right photo above).

Step 3. Start rolling the strip into a roll in a few turns.

Step 4. When the roll becomes sufficiently dense and strong, start forming the first “petals”: fold the ribbon diagonally to the outside as shown in the top photo on the right and wrap around the center of the rose.

Step 5. Continue forming the petals in the same order: fold the tape on the bias to the outside - wrap the workpiece - fold the tape on the bias to the outside - wrap the workpiece - etc. There should be approximately 3-5 bends of the ribbon per row of petals. From time to time, layers of fabric need to be fixed with hot glue. As a result, you should end up with a rose similar to the one in these photos.

Experiment with the number of folds of the flower and the density of the folding of the fabric to achieve a more casual or, conversely, more neat look for your flower

Step 6. Once the rose reaches the desired diameter, lower the remaining tail of the ribbon down and glue it to the base.

In this project, the back side of the craft was covered with the remaining tail of fabric.

Step 8. Make the number of flowers you need in different sizes - small, medium and large.

This video presents a master class on how to make roses from denim with your own hands.

Master class 2. Artificial flowers made of satin fabric or organza

Looking at these flowers made of satin fabric, it seems that they were created by a real master of flower making, but in fact, even a beginner can make the same realistic peonies/roses.

You will need:

  • Candle;
  • Satin, silk, chiffon or organza made from 100% polyester. For making peonies, white and pink fabric (all shades) is suitable;
  • Scissors;
  • Yellow floss threads (for stamens);
  • Needle.

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut out 5 circles from fabric: 4 circles with a diameter of 8-10 cm and 1 circle with a diameter of approximately 5-8 cm. You can cut roughly and by eye, any inaccuracies and unevenness do not matter.

Step 2. Light a candle and start processing the first round workpiece: carefully bring its edge close to the flame and begin to rotate around its axis so that all the edges of the circle are melted and curled. Be careful, have a glass of water ready, and most importantly, do not bring the workpiece too close to the fire. Keep in mind that if you overdo it, the edges will turn black, which is not always desirable. However, sometimes it is the blackened edges that give homemade flowers realism or originality. Repeat this process with all remaining circles.

Step 3. Now, using scissors, make 4 cuts on each workpiece as shown in the diagram and photo below. The main thing here is to leave the center of the circle intact.

Step 4. Back to working with the candle again. This time we melt the newly obtained sections, pushing the sections apart with both hands. Repeat the procedure with all five petals.

Step 5. Set 2 large and 1 smallest pieces aside. We will return to them later, but for now let's work on the 2 remaining blanks, that is, the middle layers of peony petals. They need to be cut again according to the following pattern.

As a result, you will get twice as many petals.

Step 6. Use a candle to burn the new cut areas and set the pieces aside.

Step 7. It's time to make the peony stamens in the form of a small pompom from yellow floss threads. For this:

  • Wind a whole strand of floss tightly around your index and middle fingers together. You should get about 8 turns.
  • Now tie the middle of the resulting skein tightly (between two fingers) with the same yellow thread.
  • Cut two loops, straighten the threads and trim the pompom if necessary.

Step 8. We begin to “assemble” the flower. Stack two large blanks on top of each other, which have only 4 petals, then put two blanks with 8 petals on them and, finally, complete the bud with the smallest blank with 4 petals.

Step 9. Hurray, the flower is almost ready! All that remains is to sew a yellow pompom to its center, simultaneously sewing all 5 layers of petals together.

If desired, glue/sew the necessary accessories, such as a pin, to the back of the bud to make a brooch out of the flower.

By changing the shape, color, size of the petals, their number and gluing principle, you can make not only peonies and roses, but also poppies (pictured), ranunculus, lilies and tulips.

And here is an example of flowers made from organza.

Master class 3. Flower made from frills in 5 minutes

Don't have hot glue, but have a needle and thread? Or did you suddenly need to make fabric flowers as quickly as possible? Then we hasten to introduce you to the technique of making flowers from frills.

You will need:

  • Textile;
  • Scissors;
  • Needle and thread to match the fabric;
  • Iron (optional).

Step 1. Cut the fabric into strips about 30 cm long and about 7-8 cm wide. You can choose other sizes to make smaller or larger flowers.

Step 2. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and iron the fold.

Step 3. Baste the workpiece with wide stitches at the bottom as shown in the photo below.

Step 4. Assemble the workpiece into an accordion, slowly pulling out the thread. Do not pull the thread too hard to avoid breaking it.

Step 5. Complete the circle by connecting the two ends of the ribbon and making a few stitches (tie a knot on the back side).

Step 6. Glue/sew beads, rhinestones or buttons into the center of the flower. Ready!

This method can be modified slightly if you want to make a more layered flower with raw cuts, such as linen or denim. Cut a wide, long strip of fabric, baste it down the middle from start to finish, gather it into an accordion shape, roll one edge of the strip into a log, and then start rolling the ribbon around it. Periodically, the layers of fabric need to be fixed with glue or stitches. Below in the photo slider there is a master class in pictures on making a flower from flax (scroll the photo to the right).

If you have a long length of fabric, you can make a flower of large diameter, for example, to decorate a pillow cover. To gather such a long ribbon, the easiest way is to use a sewing machine.

To make such large flowers, you will need strips of fabric 2.5-3 m long

These potted flowers are made from old cotton T-shirts.

Master class 4. Volumetric pompom flower

This master class is good in cases where you need a fabric flower to be voluminous and lush.

You will need:

  • Any soft fabric of the desired color;
  • Hot glue gun;
  • Scissors;
  • Felt.

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut out about 20-30 circles with a diameter of approximately 4 cm from the fabric. All these circles will later become petals. You can cut the blanks by eye; the correctness of the shape does not matter.

  • To cut several circles at once, simply fold the fabric 3-4 times.

Step 2. Now cut out a circle with a diameter of about 4 cm from felt. This circle will become the base of your flower.

Step 3. Take one of your petal circles and fold it to form a ball like the photo below.

Step 4. Glue your piece with the tip to the center of the felt base.

Step 5. Continue gluing your balls one by one to the felt base until it is completely covered with petals. Voila! The flower is ready!

If you wish, you can make the flower flat rather than lush and complement it with beaded stamens. To do this, the petals need to be folded as follows: bend the circle in half, then bend the right and left parts of the resulting semicircle towards its center to make a quarter. Next, all you have to do is glue the petals in a circle onto the felt base, and then sew/glue the beads into the center.

And a few more ideas that you can implement by following our master class.

And finally, we suggest watching another video master class on how to make fabric flowers with your own hands.

How to make a flower from fabric?

A step-by-step master class will help you understand the process:

  1. Preparation of patterns. Cut out drawn round geometric shapes of different diameters from paper. Templates can be made using glasses of different sizes or other objects of similar shape.
  2. Place the cut parts on the fabric. Using ready-made templates, cut out several round elements of each size from the prepared organza - you get blanks for the petals.
  3. Using a burning candle, melt the edges of the workpieces.
  4. It is recommended to start assembling with the lower petals, which are larger in size, then add the rest one by one. In the middle of the flower, glue a bead, seed beads, you can sew them on or string them on a fishing line. It turns out to be a beautiful flower - a peony.
  5. To create a rose, at the beginning of work, make shallow cuts in a round fabric blank. During the process of scorching with fire, carefully observe that the petals curl in one direction. In this case, the delicate rose will turn out beautiful and elegant.

Flowers and ribbons

Decorative embellishments made from ribbons of different fabrics look completely natural. This is a rose twisted from a single satin ribbon, realistic bouquets, textured buds, lace specimens with leaves.

If you understand the technique of twisting the simplest product - a rose from ribbon strips - in the future you can take on more complex creations. To get roses of different sizes, buds, open heads, you need to vary the dimensional features of the selected ribbon. The composition of the tape used is selected according to the creative wishes of the manufacturer.

To work, you need ribbon fabric of the selected color; the resulting large or medium bud will depend on the width and length. To get a small rose, it is enough to prepare a ribbon 2 cm wide. In addition, prepare the necessary tools, namely scissors, thread, needle and glue gun.

How to make flowers from fabric? Everything is ready, it's time to get to work:

  1. Make a rose from ribbon according to the previous rolling tutorial.
  2. Form the petals by bending the tape outward along the bias and wrap it around the center of the flower. Hold the workpiece from below; you can secure it with thread.
  3. Continue growing the petals according to the scheme: bend the ribbon, wrap the bud, and then continue exactly like this
  4. After a few turns, it is advisable to fix the rows at the base of the bud so that the tape does not unravel. The flower is placed between two fingers (index and thumb) so that the rose is located on the palm.
  5. As soon as the bud reaches the desired size, press the end of the tape to the base and secure with glue.

Experienced craftswomen fix the layers of fabric tape twice, at the beginning of work and at the end, and beginners are recommended to stitch or glue the petals.

Braid is great for making flowers that can be used to decorate rings, brooches or necklaces. The product made from this material turns out to be very elegant and intricate.

Japanese style in action

In the modern world, fashionistas began to use their toiletries decorated with flowers using the kanzashi technique. This is an old handicraft invented by the Japanese, and is still in great demand today. The most popular model of this style is a flower with different shapes of petals, round or pointed edges, for example, chamomile, rose, chrysanthemum and others. The girl's image becomes more feminine and eye-catching thanks to the decoration in the form of a delicate flower with bright colorful petals created from fabrics.

Connoisseurs of decorative art say that fabric products in the kanzashi style will never go out of fashion and will always bring charm and individuality to women.

Before you begin the creative process itself, you need to remember a few important points:

  • Choose the right fabric.
  • Connecting flower parts.
  • Slicing methods.
  • Heat treatment of fabric.

The most suitable and convenient material to use would be a regular satin ribbon. It can be heat treated, easily cut with scissors, and holds the shape of the finished product well. This is the best option for beginner needlewomen. More experienced craftswomen can work with natural silks, nylon and other varieties.

When connecting individual parts of a flower, kanzashi prefer the process of stitching with a needle and thread. You can use glue, but the requirements for it are as follows: dry quickly, leave no marks, hold individual parts of the craft as a whole.

For smooth and accurate cutting, there is a convenient way to wrap the tape several times around a cardboard template, pull it off and cut it into several pieces at once. The edges are trimmed with sharp scissors. There is another simple way: bend the tape diagonally and cut it. Using the finished template, cut out the required number of blanks.

To melt pieces of fabric and give individual parts a shape, matches and a regular lighter are used. A wax candle will help beginners.

Japanese specialists glue the edges of textiles with rice adhesive, which leaves no marks, and does not use fire treatment.

The disadvantage of this method for inexperienced needlewomen is that such glue takes a long time to dry. If you use a candle to melt the tip of the strip, you need to trim it a few millimeters and then process it at the base of the flame.
