Plant burnet officinalis has long been used as an astringent and hemostatic agent for internal bleeding, hemorrhoids, menstrual disorders and many other diseases. This article will discuss in detail the properties of this amazing plant, the scope and methods of its use in children and adults.

Description of the burnet plant

Burnet belongs to the class of perennial plants. It can be recognized by its very thin and long stems, reaching a height of one and a half meters, many small flowers, as well as leaves that resemble feathers in shape. It has strong roots. The plant grows near rivers and small streams, in spacious glades and meadows.

Collection and storage

The plant blooms only in the fourth or fifth year of life, from June to August, while the fruits ripen from August to September. The fruit of the burnet is a small brown nut.

For medicinal purposes, mainly burnet roots and rhizomes are used, harvested during the fruiting period, when the inflorescences acquire a dark red color.

It is extremely important to properly collect and dry the plant, for which you should follow the rules below:
1. To preserve the thickets, some part of the plants must be left - for the resumption of reproduction (one or two plants per 10 sq.m.).
2. Secondary procurement of medicinal raw materials in one area is carried out after 10 years.
3. To dig up the plant, a shovel with a groove-shaped rounded blade is used, while it is impossible to pull the burnet out of the soil by the stems.
4. The earth and stems are removed from the dug out roots and rhizomes, after which the medicinal raw material is thoroughly washed in cold water. The washed raw materials are laid out for drying, after which the remains of the stems located at the base of the rhizomes are removed.
5. The dried raw material is cut into 20 cm strips and left to dry in the fresh air, after which it is finally dried in the sun (the raw material can be dried in an oven or in dryers, but always at a temperature of 45 degrees).

Important! It is impossible to dry raw materials on metal baking sheets or grates, since the plant may turn black - and, therefore, lose its medicinal properties.

The fact that the medicinal raw material is completely dry is evidenced by the fragility of the roots (in an under-dried plant, the roots are bent, not broken).

The finished raw material is distinguished by a dark brown color on the outside (a break in the roots has a yellowish tint), an astringent taste and no smell.

Dried roots and rhizomes are stored for about five years.

Burnet officinalis during pregnancy

Burnet preparations are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The use of burnet officinalis in children

Preparations from the root and rhizomes of burnet have a pronounced bactericidal effect on microbes of the dysentery, as well as typhoid and paratyphoid groups. Burnet preparations neutralize both typhoid and paratyphoid groups of microbes in 15 minutes, and dysentery bacteria - within five minutes.

In addition, burnet is used as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, and also an analgesic in the treatment of enteritis, intestinal infections (in particular dysentery) and diarrhea (both gastrogenous and toxic) in children.

The use of burnet is shown to eliminate inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and nasopharynx (a decoction of burnet is used as a rinse for gingivitis and stomatitis). A tincture of the roots of the plant is used to lubricate the gums.

It should be noted that burnet preparations slow down intestinal motility and stop convulsions, while not affecting the body negatively, therefore they are recommended for children to take.

The roots of the burnet officinalis have an anti-inflammatory effect, due to which decoctions and infusions from this plant are widely used in the treatment of burns, abrasions, and poorly healing wounds.

Decoction for dysentery

Burnet officinalis for diarrhea

The main causes of diarrhea in adults are:
  • irritable bowel syndrome, provoked by a malfunction of the nervous system;
  • unbalanced diet;
  • food poisoning.

Burnet officinalis for myoma

The composition of burnet officinalis includes carotene, saponins, copper, selenium and boron, which have oncoprotective properties, due to which preparations from this plant are widely used for the treatment and prevention of oncological diseases in general, and uterine fibroids in particular. In addition, boron regulates reproductive processes, and manganese, nickel and iodine normalize hormonal levels, thereby preventing the development of tumors.

With fibroids, a collection of boron uterus and burnet is shown, which are taken in equal amounts. 1 tbsp of this collection is poured with a glass of hot water and infused for 5-10 minutes, after which it is taken in a tablespoon three times a day. The infusion is drunk until the disease is cured.

For external use, as well as washing and douching, a decoction is prepared from the following herbs:

The same decoction during exacerbation can be taken orally, 1 tbsp. two to three times a day on an empty stomach (stop taking the decoction should be 7 days before the expected menstruation). A decoction from the collection in a short time relieves inflammation, normalizes hormonal balance and eliminates tumors.

Burnet officinalis for hemorrhoids

Often, hemorrhoids are accompanied by bleeding, which will help to eliminate a decoction of burnet, which has hemostatic and anti-inflammatory effects due to the fact that the plant contains saponins, zinc, magnesium, tannins and essential oils.

Decoction of hemorrhoids

1 tbsp well crushed roots are poured with one glass of boiling water. The product is boiled for half an hour, and then filtered and infused for 2 to 3 hours. This decoction can be taken orally (1 tablespoon during the day, on an empty stomach), or added to sitz baths, which reduce not only bleeding, but also hemorrhoids.

Candles for hemorrhoids

Ingredients (taken in equal proportions):
  • burnet roots;
  • cacao butter ;
  • pharmaceutical camomile;
  • pumpkin oil;
  • peppermint;
  • propolis tincture.
Dry roots of burnet are crushed to a powder. Cocoa butter is melted in a water bath, after which all of the above components are added to it. The resulting thick mass is poured into pre-prepared tubes made of foil (it is important that one edge of the tube is bent). After the mass is poured into the tube, its second edge is bent. The tubes are placed in a refrigerator to harden.

Such anal suppositories are used before going to bed. At the same time, if the intestines have not been emptied during the day, it is recommended to make a cleansing enema before using the candle. The course of treatment with candles is one month, after which it is necessary to take a break for a month. If hemorrhoids still bother you, you can repeat the monthly course. Such candles not only treat hemorrhoids, but also relieve inflammation, having a beneficial effect on the body as a whole.

The plant is quite common in Asia (in regions with a temperate climate), in Europe, as well as in North America. In Russia, burnet grows in the forest-steppe, steppe (partially) and forest zones. It can be found in the Far East, and in the Caucasus Mountains, and in the European part of the country. For harvesting medicinal raw materials from burnet, it is planted most of all in Siberia, as well as in the Urals and Tatarstan.

spice making method

The main part of the plant used for the preparation of medicinal decoctions is the rhizome. Its preparation is carried out during fruiting - when the pharmacy burnet attracts attention against the background of other herbaceous plants with flowers of a dark red hue. The plant is dug up, not pulled out. In order for the burnet thickets to remain, some of the plants (one or two per ten m2) are left, and the harvesting in the same place is repeated ten years later.

Warning:

  1. Dug out rhizomes should be shaken off the soil, cut off from the stems and washed in cold water.
  2. After drying the rhizomes a little, they are cut into pieces 20 centimeters long.
  3. Next, they need to be laid out in the fresh air so that the raw materials are dried in the sun. Drying can also be carried out in the oven (45 degrees), in the dryer or in the attic. At the same time, the rhizomes should not be laid out on metal grates or baking sheets, so that they do not turn black and lose their medicinal properties.
  4. To determine whether the raw materials are dried, a check will help - the roots should not bend, but break. Raw materials harvested in this way are stored for up to 5 years.

Peculiarities

  • The smell of raw materials prepared from this plant is practically absent, the taste of rhizomes is astringent.

Varieties:

  • The plant has attractive varieties - Pink Tanna (pink flowers) and Tanna (bright red flowers).
  • The variegated burnet has burgundy flowers, and the leaves are distinguished by a white border around the edges. Since this variety blooms relatively late, it is more in demand in the southern regions.
  • Gardeners love blunt burnet, distinguished by coral-pink colors.
  • The Alba variety has white inflorescences.
  • Also common (especially in rock gardens) is a magnificent burnet - a low plant with bluish leaves and pink inflorescences.

Tall varieties of burnet fit perfectly into flower beds and lawns:

  • Canadian burnet attracts with a 2-meter height and white inflorescences.
  • Alpine burnet is distinguished by inflorescences of a yellow-green hue.

cultivation

The plant tolerates winter remarkably. These features turn the burnet into a perennial, which is very much in demand in gardens. Under favorable conditions, the plant becomes taller, with many leaves and abundant flowering. If you plant burnet of different varieties, the plants will pollinate, as a result of which different hybrid options will appear in the garden. It is preferable to sow burnet before winter. To prevent self-seeding, it is important to remove flowering inflorescences in time.

They were also used to maintain pregnancy.
In Russia, especially in Siberia, the beneficial properties of burnet were well known. Here is what Dr. Dvigubsky wrote about her in 1830: “The root, which has an astringent taste, is used by common people for diarrhea. Agricultural technology

Care is extremely simple - weeding and loosening.

In early spring, after the snow melts, complex mineral fertilizers are scattered at the rate of 30-40 g per 1 m2 and lightly sprinkled with earth, since the root system of the burnet is located in the surface layer of the soil. The same amount of fertilizer is applied before sowing seeds. During the growing season, the soil around the plants is maintained in a loose state, free from weeds. The plant is practically not affected by pests and diseases. Therefore, growing it is a pleasure. In the future, when digging roots for raw materials, small roots with renewal buds can be planted in a new place. Thus, there will always be its own planting material.

Advice. The plant can be planted in partial shade near the fence, can be placed in a mixborder. But it should be remembered that even in the driest and most unfavorable years, burnet does not fall below 1.5 m.

reproduction

You can grow plants from seeds or bring rhizomes from the meadow. Seeds must be sown before winter slightly unripe. For germination, they need stratification. They are sown in holes or rows at a distance of 15-20 cm, watered and sprinkled with a mixture of earth, sand, peat in equal proportions.
