How to install a fender on a stern bike. How to install fenders on a bike: step by step instructions

The master shares his experience of buying and installing bicycle fenders on a mountain bike. Bicycle fenders come in different price categories, but my bike travels no more than 500 km per season and buying simple budget fenders for several years is fully justified. The bike fenders were bought from an online store and delivered quickly. Instructions for installing wings on a bicycle with your own hands, adjusting their position and overcoming the difficulties of an unexpected “surprise” are discussed below with photos and videos.

For or against the installation of wings

If you are not an athlete and not a complete mount bike fan, then fenders are a must. Fenders for a bicycle are determined by the type of bicycle and its purpose. Positive aspects of installing wings:

  • This is protection against splashes and sticking dirt on you and on the parts of the bike;
  • Properly fitted fenders improve the look of the bike and even increase its safety on the roads;
  • Increases the period between prevention and mountain bike settings;
  • The bike breaks down less, fails and is washed less often.

The disadvantages include:

  • The wings also break, both when driving, and when parking and transporting;
  • Wings can be difficult to store and transport.

True, some of these difficulties can be eliminated by installing quick-detachable wings.

Bicycle fenders can be divided into two classes:

  • stationary;
  • quick release.

Based on the above features, you can stop at the choice of suitable wings.

How to install bike wings on a mountain bike with your own hands

I will not talk about the popularity of bicycles. My two-suspension bike is used for walking in the forest, trips to the lake, picking mushrooms and fishing. In places of its movement, there are only forest paths and dirt roads, the terrain is very rugged. Unfortunately, the fenders break, in my case the rear fender lasted almost 5 years and was broken by someone in the parking lot. Tried to fix this wing. But I did not get a reliable result, the service life of the rear wing repaired more than once at the attachment point was no more than 1 month. I wanted to put new wings more fun than the old ones. Wings of a beautiful salad color were ordered via the Internet with a price difference of the nearest bike shop almost three times. Having received the parcel two weeks later, I started installing the wings. The parts package contained all the necessary components and even a tool for assembly - a small hex key. The instruction label shows all the main steps for assembling and installing the wing. Pre-assembly revealed the lack of a set of wings. I guess I'm out of luck. A surprise from Uncle Liao was the presence in the set of three washers with a large diameter of the seat for them. I had to be smart. I tightened all three washers on the thumb screw from the kit with nuts. I reduced the diameter of the washers by turning the washers on an emery wheel. The revision was a success, all the washers fell into their seats and the assembly process went on.

First, the rear wing attachment assembly was assembled. Watch the video.

Next, I checked the assembly of the front wing. Two halves of the wing is fixed on the mounting platform. The platform, in turn, is easily attached and fixed on the sleeve. Expandable sleeve is fixed in the column. The kit includes three parts of the sleeve of various diameters. See photo. The bushing part is clamped in the column with a screw, which is tightened with a hex key.

The installation of bicycle fenders is necessary, first of all, for the full operation of the vehicle, which is not limited by weather conditions. Despite the versatility of the bike in use, it is quite difficult to choose the right, and most importantly, high-quality wing.

It must be understood that such accessories are not always supplied with the bike, and there are quick-detachable and stationary models to choose from, which differ in the principle of attachment, design and, of course, the scope.

Do not forget about the design features of conventional road bikes, on which only stationary fender models can be installed. The latter can be made of plastic, but with a similar feather fastening system.

What tool is needed for installation:

  • screwdriver (preferably a type-setting model);
  • socket or box wrench for 9-10.

The list is small, but the work is only with ready-made products that have original mounting systems in the kit.

How to install quick release fenders on a sports bike?

You need to start by assembling the front wing, which is based on a metal plate. Dress parts of the wing on one side and the other. The one that is more authentic is installed on the lower part.

It turns out a blank of a collapsible wing. To mount it on the bike frame, you need to take the bolts and nuts from the kit. In finished form, this is a spacer. To assemble it, put a washer on the bolt and thread it from the bottom of the metal plate. The two parts of the spacer must be placed on the side of the bolt that has come out.

One part of the spacer is already threaded, so it is simply fixed.

At this stage, it is not yet necessary to fix the assembled fastening mechanism strongly.

The next step is to find the bushing on the bottom of the front fork. Some manufacturers can mask it with a plastic plug, which will prevent dirt from entering during operation without a protective wing.

In our case, it is in this sleeve that the wing must be installed. By tightening the screw threaded through the previously mentioned mounting plate, the expansion of the spacer can be adjusted to fit the inside diameter of the bushing. If, after maximum twisting, the width of the spacer is insufficient, use an additional expander, which, almost always, comes with the purchased accessory.

If there is no additional expander, you can use a regular rubber strip, after cutting it out from the old bike tube.

Having achieved the desired seal in the sleeve, using a screwdriver, wrap the mounting bolt as tightly as possible.

Installing the rear quick-release wing

In fact, this is a continuation of the above works, but with respect to the rear wheel. You need to prepare the rear wheel. For this, a small set of spare parts remained.

Square nuts are inserted into the grooves of the plastic clamp on both sides. They are needed to fix long bolts. The latter are threaded through the remaining extension piece and twisted, thereby creating a mount of the desired length.

Next, you need to take the wing and put a groove on it for the holder. It is also fixed with a screw and washer. We take the next part and insert a threaded pin into it. We fasten the resulting workpiece to the base, where the screw was removed in advance.

The aforementioned connection is twisted as tightly as possible. If the nut from the kit is too small and it is likely to fall into the slot for the groove when tightening, then it must be replaced.

The next step is to fix the clamp assembled from two elements on the seatpost. To do this, release the frame clamp and pull the saddle with the pin out. The clamp itself is fixed with two screws.

Press the clamp evenly, gradually on both sides. This will eliminate the possibility of deformation of the plastic and warping of the new wing.

The resulting workpiece with a sheer wing is installed in the resulting place with the help of the screw remaining in the kit. To fix it, use a hex wrench, which is also included in the kit. Tighten only by hand, without the use of additional tubes.

The rear wing can be adjusted in height in two places - at the base and the place of fastening to the collar. The height adjustment of the wing is based on a slope that will prevent water from entering the clothing.

These plastic quick-release fenders have proven themselves well when driving in the mud. The distance from the fender to the tire prevents dirt from clogging and, as a result, immobilizing the bike.

Installation of prefabricated plastic wings type PM-05

They are suitable for bicycles with wheel sizes from 24" to 26". Everything starts from the back. The bracket is installed on the seat frame. Then the front part of the wing is snapped into it.

If the brake system on the bike is on vibration brakes, they need to be unclenched.

I squeeze the edges of the installed bracket so that its edges lie in the grooves. It is quite easy to do this, even with one hand. The depth is chosen based on personal preference. Fastening is based on a ratchet.

Now take the front fender and the screw with the nut. The front wing is also installed using a hole, but not in the crown, but in the fork throat. For convenience, you also need to release the brakes.

Thread the screw inward. On the reverse side, we put on the wing, throw in the nut and fix it. It is not necessary to fully tighten the nut. For convenience, you can grab it with a ring wrench, and wrap it with a screwdriver.

The next thing to do is to adjust the height of the wing. This is necessary so that the protector does not rub against it. Otherwise, when reversing, the product is likely to be damaged.

At the end of the installation, the screw is finally tightened. That, in fact, is the whole process of attaching the front and rear wings. Such fenders are the best suited for road bikes, because the distance from the tread to the fender is minimal. Such an installation will almost completely protect against water ingress on clothing.

Installation of fixed metal wings

The metal stationary model is also mounted on the gorive, and below it is fixed to the mounting points of the fork and chainstay. Before buying such fenders, look at your frame, check the availability of installation spaces. This will determine whether such wings will fit in size.

If it is found that the bike does not have feather mounting holes, you can cut a few pieces from the non-prinion gasket and tighten it all with ordinary clamps.

Due to the all-metal construction and fixation on a long mustache made of hard wire by the tips of the wheel axles, coverage of half the circumference of the wheel is achieved.

Installation is much easier than the quick-release models mentioned. The front is fixed on the frame with a fixing bolt and tightened with a lock nut. Feather pads are screwed onto the front fork with screws for a flat screwdriver.

The principle of installation of the rear wing is similar to the front. One has only to take into account the fact that the longer the rear wing, the lower its location. This will allow you to realize maximum protection, but at the same time significantly reduce ground clearance. Any dirt will fill the gap quickly enough, thereby bringing the bike to a stationary state.

On the market you can find models of full-size wings that are made of plastic. They are installed solely for the purpose of lightening the weight of the vehicle. Products and prices vary.

Is the choice of fenders so important for a quality installation?

Protective wings will prove useful for those who use the bike in the middle lane of the country, where heavy rainfall often falls. Thus, it becomes quite obvious that their installation will bring extraordinary benefits.

When choosing a front fender, it is necessary to pay attention to the bicycle fork. It must have a special mounting hole, which is necessary for installing quick-release wings.

For the rear fender, there should also be a hole in the spacer bar at the rear of the frame. The central part is attached to the frame, so the inner diameter of the mounting clips must match the diameter of the frame pipe.

The full-length fenders, which mount exactly to the holes on the frame and fork, provide abundant protection from water and sand, not only from above, but also from the side. It is also worth noting that such wings practically do not dangle when driving through pits and exits from curbs.

What if there are no holes on the frame?

If the manufacturer has not provided for the installation of full-size wings, then you can make mounting holes yourself using a drill and a thin drill. Careful work will not damage the integrity of the frame. Side scuffs from the drill can be covered with washers on both sides.

For a smooth hole, the drill must pass at the right angle. You can achieve this result using an old plastic comb, by clamping the drill between its teeth.

If there is no desire to make changes to the frame design, you should pay attention to the quick-release fenders, which are installed precisely in the crown of the front fork. The rear fender is attached exclusively to the seatpost of the bicycle frame.

Lack of quick release wings

You can buy them almost blindly, since the mounting system is almost the same. Despite the simplicity and cheapness, it is worth noting:

  • High landing (significant splashing at speed).
  • No side protection.
  • The probability of slipping the rear wing with strong shaking.

Are growers required for installation? The grower is mainly used in combination with parts that are subject to strong vibrations. Their direct application can find itself in the aspect of installing a quick-release pair, which is attached to the frame due to plastic elements.

Grover can be placed under nuts with any tightening system, even if we are talking about hexagons. The benefits of such self-improvement will undoubtedly be useful.

The tightening torque is determined based on the applied force. Disbanding a grower is almost impossible.

Outcome

Thus, it becomes quite obvious that the installation of fenders plays a huge role for the bike owner. The installation process itself takes a minimum of time. The number of necessary tools is also quite scarce. With a strong desire, you can get by with improvised means.

As it has already become clear, different fastening systems require a preliminary check of the frame or even its preparation. The easiest installation method is the quick couple clip system.

If you ignore the installation of the fenders, not only is it impossible to use the bike in rainy weather, but you can also cause significant and accelerated wear on the frame, as well as brakes on the cable. Sand and other debris from the road surface literally sandblast the frame and paintwork.

Also, the need for installation, followed by the choice of method, may be based on the type of rubber (tire) used. A high tread has a higher aquaplaning rate, which means that it throws out more water at a full turn. Even a quick-release pair has a useful protection factor of over 60%. This is a good result considering the distance between the wing and the tread.

Specialists and manufacturers, during the installation process, advise using only original pairs and fasteners. Among these, you can find special inseparable seals that will protect the frame from scratches and also reduce the level of vibration transmitted to the mounting screws.

Remember that you can get the best fenders (and maybe even improve their splash-proofing properties by attaching pieces of plastic to the ends of the fenders), but they still will not protect you from the spray of cars on the left, and your back (or backpack on it) from rain from above. Therefore, for a comfortable ride in wet weather, we recommend getting a backpack cover and / or a rain cover. Also pay attention to bicycle helmets with visors.

Full protection should be comprehensive and original. In general, bicycle fenders provide only 50% of the total protection. Regardless of the size and fastenings, water will get on the legs and parts of the back. Please note that side fenders are also on sale.

Almost always, a freshly bought bicycle is a structure like “frame + two wheels + bell” - this is what is called the basic configuration, “sit down and ride”.

Additional accessories you can choose to your taste. You can do without some, such as, for example, a trunk, a footboard, a bike computer, we strongly recommend not to postpone the purchase of a mirror, but wings, if you plan to ride not only in dry weather, it is better to buy right away. Believe me, your t-shirt will thank you for it on the very first ride around the city after the rain!

Wing installation

Installing fenders on a bike is extremely easy, it's much more difficult to find a really good fender. The whole variety can be divided into two types: stationary and quick-detachable.

Stationary fastened with screws to the front fork and rear stays. For urban models, they sell, which allow you to close up to half the circumference of the wheel (they are usually made of metal and are additionally fixed with long “mustache” made of wire for the tips of the wheel axles).

You should pay attention to the fact that the longer the wing and the lower above the wheel it is located, the higher the degree of protection against splashes and the lower the cross-country ability: on difficult routes, dirt will very quickly clog the space under the wings, making it difficult to move.

Installation of quick-release wings

Quick-release fenders attach to the head tube and seat post. These wings are usually very wide, so they protect well, including from side splashes. Their main drawback, perhaps, is one: not all quick-detachable rear fenders can be used with a trunk. The ease of removal of the wings does not mean that they will be easy to steal: the wing (both rear and front) does not cling directly to the bike, but to the mount, and if the wing itself can be removed very quickly, then it takes time to release the mount.

Also, a special shield attached to the bicycle frame can also be attributed to the wings. He can still catch some amount of dirt flying from under the front wheel.

Now, in fact, a short story about how to install fenders on a bicycle. Small, because almost always bicycle accessories are equipped not only with all the necessary fasteners, but also with installation instructions, often with diagrams. Note for rim brake owners: Loosen the fenders before installing the fenders. It may happen that in the place where you need to mount the fixed fender, your bike already has a reflector (corner reflector) installed. It's okay, as a rule, the length of the bolt allows you to fix both accessories.

Installing the front fender

Usually the front fender is fixed at one point (unless you have a mustache design), while the rear fender can have two fastenings: it is screwed to the frame with a screw and additionally fixed to the very bottom of the seat tube with the lower part (for this, at the narrow end of the fender there can be arcuate latch).

Of course, if your bike has a rack, the rear fender fits under it. So that it vibrates less and does not move while driving, you can use rubber bands, ties, or somehow additionally pull the wing to the trunk.

Installation of easily removable wings

Easy-to-remove fenders are also easy to install. The fastener-strut of the front wing is stuck into the head tube from below and tightened with an adjusting screw. All. Now insert the wing into the groove (until it clicks). Removing and putting on such a wing afterwards is a matter of a few seconds, but depending on the design there may be some problems, the main of which is play. You may need to independently, as they say, “finish the design with a file”: how exactly - look at the situation.

The fasteners of the rear easily removable fender are fixed on the seatpost. If the stud is too smooth, without a friction rubber pad, the wing can move while riding. In addition, if the wing is not stiff enough, it can also twitch from side to side, so choose a wider model. The easily removable rear wing has one important advantage: depending on the specific situation, you can easily change the distance to the wheel and the angle of the wing.

Well, a few more general tips.

When it rains, visibility deteriorates, so turn on the rear red light. On wet roads, traction is worse, so do not accelerate, especially before turning. And most importantly - beware of puddles: they hide holes and potholes.

Flying even at low speed into one of them, you can fall and injure yourself or damage your bike by breaking the wheel or bending the rim.

Selection of wings according to the diameter and width of the tire

First of all, the wings are selected according to the diameter of the wheel, which you can find out by looking at the side of the tire. After all, they are all so different - from 12 to 29 inches. Having learned it, you can safely go to the store and ask to see all the possible options for your wheel size.

However, the wings are not the same diameter. Look at the width of the wing so that it can completely cover your tire. This is especially true for mountain bikes, where tires can be very wide, and even more so for fat bikes.

Selection of fenders for mounting on a bicycle

Once you've decided on the diameter and width, look at your frame and fork. Are there holes for mounting the fender? On the fork, they should be on the gorilla (the bridge that connects the 2 parts of the fork) and at the bottom where the wheel is attached. On the frame, holes (or "lugs") should also be located near the place where the wheel is attached to the frame, in the jumper connecting the top stays of the frame, and also at the bottom of the jumper connecting the bottom stays of the frame.

If there are holes, then feel free to take a set of full wings - this will be the most practical option. The maximum that can get dirty is your shoes. Although this can be prevented by putting a mudguard (it can be included). You should not worry about the appearance of the bike, even if you have a mountain bike. Not the coolest look of a bike with fenders is easily compensated by your neat appearance, regardless of the amount of water and mud on your way.

Fenders for bicycles without fasteners on the frame

If you have a mountain full suspension or a hardtail without frame fasteners, then we have bad news for you. It will not be possible to completely protect yourself from dirt and water due to the lack of the necessary fasteners for installing full wings. But quick-release wings can protect you from total washing.

With such wings, clothes below the waist will still be dirty, but if you were going to meet a girl, you can hide behind a bush and give her flowers from there. After all, above the waist you will look impressively good.

In general, of course, on mountain bikes fenders are not the most practical accessory and rarely provide complete protection. This does not apply to city bikes, folding bikes, and cruisers. There, fenders are a necessary element, without which it is impossible to imagine such bicycles, because they are equipped with fenders as standard from the factory. True, the wings offered by the manufacturer may not always suit you. After all, even full-size wings have significant differences, primarily in material.

Differences of full-size wings according to the material of manufacture

Steel.

Perhaps the most impractical option. Their only plus is they are cheap. Everything else is minus. They have a lot of weight, significantly weighing down the bike. They are very unreliable in shaking - the mount in the form of a corner strives to fall off the wing and often does it with success. When driving, they create annoying noise, constantly rattle, and require frequent tightening of connections.

Aluminum. Lighter than metal, but are very rare for the above reasons, but are much more expensive.

Plastic. It's also a pretty rare option. They are much lighter than metal ones, inexpensive, but also not very reliable.

The most popular, reliable and lightweight. Due to the thin metal base and plastic surfaces, they have high strength, crack much less from many irregularities, and are quite elastic.

The rest of the wings differ in the way they are attached.

The front fender is attached to the fork stem from below. The plastic sleeve is inserted inside, and thanks to the spacer mechanism, it is firmly fixed there. The rear fender is attached to the seat post with a high-strength fabric clamp. Both wings can be removed in 5 seconds, which is why they got their definition.

The front fender is attached with a screw to the fork gorilla. The rear one is attached either only to the jumper between the top stays of the frame, or it can have an additional hook to the seat tube of the frame.

Exotic and Homemade Wing Options

Such wings can only protect a small part of the body, but they have a place to be.

Shield on the frame will take on some of the dirt directed at you above the waist.

It will take away some of the dirt intended to get on your face, and also protect the working surface of the fork from heavy wear.

spacer between the gorilla and the crown of the fork is also designed to protect the purity of your face.

Leaves your ass dry and clean.

Most of the exotic "wings" can be made by hand. Remember the program "Crazy Hands", where 2 men collected Lada Priora from plastic bottles and bags? So, at least you can assemble wings from plastic bottles with the protection you need. If only quick-detachable fenders fit on the bike, you can supplement them with a homemade plastic fender. A sturdy folder from an office supply store may also work for smaller shields. All you have to do is cut into the required shape and install it on the bike with the help of nylon ties.

Great video about DIY wings.

Imagine that you have bought a beautiful mountain bike. And on the first sunny day, we decided to test the novelty to the fullest, having gathered with friends for a picnic a few tens of kilometers from the city. And everything would be fine, but the weather changed to rain, and when you tried to go faster, the entire back began to be covered with a thick layer of mud. Then you decide that tomorrow you will install fenders for a bicycle and will no longer tolerate it.

Does your bike need this kind of protection?

Wings are installed not only to protect clothing from dirt, but also to protect components from excessive clogging.

Many mechanics and advanced riders oppose the installation of mudguards on sports bikes. Although they will protect the rider to some extent from dirt on the back, this is still an extra knot, which means extra weight and additional maintenance problems. Therefore, it is up to you to decide on the installation of fenders for a bicycle.

Choosing wings: types

Mudguards, like other bicycle parts, there are a huge number of varieties:

  1. The most common are full-size wings. The oldest type that appeared with the release of the first bicycles.
  2. Sports. They are made of flexible plastic, which saves them until the mount bursts. Designed for installation on mountain bikes with 24-29" wheels. Quality models generally perform their function and look quite stylish.
  3. There are sports swamps-shields to protect the frame from dirt. They are a small shield made of plastic (about 15-25 cm), which protects only the rod itself and the steering column from dirt. This type of fenders for a bicycle is very popular among mountain bikers and newer hardtails, which do not have any dedicated bar mounts on the fork. A similar bog is also installed on the seat tube to protect the bottom bracket and shock absorber.

Decide on the size

Wings for a bicycle are selected depending on:

  • wheel size;
  • tire width;
  • frame type.

Most fenders are universal, i.e. they can be installed on wheels 24/26/27.5/28/29 at the same time. Retractable wings are also found in nature, but as practice shows, this design is not very successful. The wider the wheels, the wider the bog, and the wider the bog, the better the protection. The standard width is about 60 mm. Fat bikes are usually not protected.

Mounting fenders on a bicycle also has several varieties. Rear:

  • On the seatpost/tube.
  • On a specially dedicated jumper on the frame and arc. Suitable only for frames that support this feature.
  • With the help of an eccentric seat clamp.

Front fender mounting types:

  • On the stem with a spacer nut.
  • On the gorilla or the crown of the fork and arc. For rigid forks only.
  • Fork legs with straps.

Bikes that cannot be fitted with fenders

There are very few such models. Basically, these are just frames of the last century with a very abstruse design, as well as narrowly targeted and special-purpose bikes. It also happens that it is possible to install fenders on a bicycle, but it is not recommended to do this. For example, in such cases:

  • Your bike has a rear shock absorber. For this, a maximum carriage shield will do.
  • Your bike belongs to some kind of sports discipline where a swamp is not needed. This is usually BMX, trial, highway, street.
  • There is no attachment point or it is occupied by something else.

In all other cases, you can install swamps.

Sports wings

Sports fenders are usually made of plastic and have a maximum of two attachment points. Mounting wings on a bicycle can be done at home and even in the field. Varieties of mounting the rear swamp can be as follows:

  • Clamp on Can be produced both with a plastic adapter and with a fabric tape, which is more versatile, but may begin to move out over time. An improperly fixed and adjusted wing will constantly drop onto the wheel. Requires a hex key/screwdriver for installation.
  • The seat clamp brace is not a very popular, but cheap type of attachment that is becoming less and less common. It has a conventional bracket with two lugs for an eccentric. It is clamped by it, additional tools are not required.

Installation of a sports bog

It should be understood that all swamps are different, so it will not work to tell how all models and types are mounted. To install both boggers, we need a 4a hex key and / or a screwdriver (depending on the type of wings), for older models - a 10 mm open-end wrench and 15 minutes of free time.

The process of mounting the rear wing is as follows:

  • Cut off the label and plastic ties, if any.
  • We wipe the place of attachment from dirt.
  • We unscrew the bolts of the clamp and disassemble it.
  • We put a rubber gasket into the clamp and tighten it on the seatpost. It is not necessary to tighten the bolts to the end, it may be necessary to readjust the position a little.
  • Next, we attach the leaf of the swamp itself.
  • We adjust the position and tighten all the bolts to the end.

Mounting the front bog with mounting in the fork stem:

  • We remove the front wheel.
  • We assemble the spacer adapter in accordance with the instructions, if it has not been assembled earlier.
  • We connect the mounting hole and the adapter with a bolt.
  • We insert the spacer plug into the stem hole and tighten it to the maximum, having previously aligned it perpendicular to the fork.
  • We return the wheel to its place.

Mudguards for touring bikes

Full-length bicycle fenders are plastic or metal arches that cover the wheel about half way horizontally. Can be fastened with two or one arc. On the market you can find universal models that are adjustable in height to provide maximum protection against dirt.

These bicycle fenders cover at least a quarter of the wheel and protect very well from dirt. Mounted on touring and hybrid bikes with tires no wider than 1.95”, but there are also models for mountain bikes.

Let's assume that your frame and fork allow the installation of boggers. In this case, you will need a screwdriver and / or a 10 mm wrench. To screw the arches - a wrench for 8 or a hexagon for 4. Attaching the front fender is very simple:

  1. Brace the front fender against the hole in the fork crown or on the gorilla if the fork has a shock absorber.
  2. Insert the mounting bolt from the kit, washer and screw on the nut. If there is a thread in the gorilla, then just screw on the bolt.
  3. As you can see, the arcs have almost fallen into place, and they only need to be tightened. All modern forks have threaded lugs for bows. So just screw both arcs.
  4. Adjust the height of the bog so that it is as low and close to the tire as possible, without touching it.
  5. Tighten the bolts to the end.

Installing the rear mudguard

The rear fender on the bike is a little more difficult to install. A full-length bog can be attached to the frame at the end or have a quick-release seat tube clamp. The latter is more versatile and fits almost all bikes, and mounting does not require removing the wheel. Also, almost all modern waders have adjustable arches for greater versatility. Therefore, full size fenders for a 26" bike can also fit 28" wheels.

To install the swamp:

  1. Pass it between the rear stays down until it rests with the bracket against the jumper on the frame.
  2. If it is threaded, just start the bolt, otherwise, insert the through bolt, washer and start the nut.
  3. As in the first case, screw the arcs to the frame.
  4. Screw/clip the clamp onto the seat tube or bolt the end to the frame.
  5. Adjust the bogger in height relative to the frame and tighten all bolts.
  6. Put the wheel back in place and recheck the brakes if necessary.

Done, you have installed both fenders and are now completely protected from dirt.

Should I leave my bike in the workshop?

If you are not confident in your abilities, it is best to take it to a workshop to install boggers. The procedure will take at least 20 minutes for complex frames, in most cases it will be done right in front of you.

Usually the desire to install fenders for a bicycle comes after riding a field road in rainy weather. Of course, the work in this case will be dirty. It is recommended to wipe down the bike before taking it to the workshop.
