Drilling rigs

The principle of operation of such an installation is based on the rotation of the drilling element. Two people or a rig motor transmit rotational movements to the rod, which can accommodate a drill hose to supply water or a special solution for permanent softening with water. A drill is fixed at the end of the rod, which is screwed into the ground.

In this way, soft soil is processed. If the soil is rocky or with stones, hydraulics are needed, and if the depth of the water is great, then a telescopic mast of more than 5 meters is needed. This makes the structure heavier, bringing the weight up to 1.5-2 tons. Extra costs appear, and mobility is lost.

Shock rope type

The principle of their work is as follows: a destructive element is fixed on the rope - a pointed chisel. Dropping it from a great height into the well, we destroy and select the soil from it. Depending on the weight of the chisel and the force of impact, up to 1 meter of soil can be selected at one time.

The drilling rig is durable, easy to drill. There is only one “but” - sometimes you need to have a partner with you who will help clear the drill from the soil. Working at a normal, not emergency pace, you can drill up to 40 meters in a week (depending on the type of soil).

Screw (manual) installation

A motor with a gearbox and a winch help to mechanize the process of lifting the cartridge to a height.

The easiest option for deep drilling is a drilling rig.

On the top of the tripod, made of pipes of 5 cm caliber, 2 plates are fixed. A block is fixed on the upper platform, and a guide hole for the rod is made in the lower plate, which is made up of 1-1.5 meter pipes of 5-10 cm caliber with tape thread and corresponding couplings.

The drill is made of a piece of pipe, at one end of which an auger screw is made. Pointed plates are welded onto it at an angle, performing the function of a knife. From the reverse (upper in the figure) side, a tape thread is cut to secure it in the tee.

The rod and the drill are screwed into the central part of the tee, into which pieces of pipes are inserted from both sides, performing the function of lever handles. The setup works like this:

  • first make a hole and insert a drill;
  • turn the tool 3-5 times;
  • extract and clean;
  • the process is repeated until an aquifer is reached;
  • as they go deeper into the ground, the rod is increased with the help of couplings.

To lift the rod (due to the constant increase in its mass), a winch-block system is used. To ensure the vertical position of the working part, there is a hole in the bottom plate, which is larger than the rod by 0.5 or 1 cm in diameter.

For self-assembly of a drilling rig, it is enough to have minimal experience with, an electric drill and a grinder.

Prepare the required equipment in advance. You will need:

  • tool for creating an external inch thread;
  • Bulgarian;
  • wrench;
  • half an inch galvanized pipe, as well as a squeegee of a similar size;
  • plumbing cross.

Prepare everything you need and proceed to do the job in accordance with the step-by-step guide.

First step

Prepare pipe sections for the manufacture of the main part of the drilling fixture. Pipes will need to be fixed in a spur and a cross. To do this, prepare a two-centimeter thread at the ends of the segments.

Weld pointed metal plates to the ends of several segments. They will act as tips.

Such an installation involves drilling with a constant supply of water, thanks to which the direct arrangement of the recess and the removal of the soil will be easier.

To supply water, connect a water or pump hose to any opening of the cross blank. Connect using a suitable adapter.

Second step

Proceed to connect the structural parts to the threaded connections. Connect a piece of workpiece with an equipped tip to the lower end of your working pipe. Make the connection using a squeegee.

Direct drilling will be carried out by deepening the pointed tip with the rotation of the working installation. Tip blanks should have different lengths. First you use the shortest fixture. After about a meter deep is ready, replace the short tip with a slightly longer one.

Third step

Assemble the base of the drilling structure from a square section profile. In this case, the base will be a rack with supporting components of the structure. The supports are connected to the main rack by means of a transition platform using.

Attach the platform and motor to the square profile. Fix the profile itself to the rack so that it can move along the rack. The dimensions of the profile used should slightly exceed the dimensions of the rack.

When choosing an electric motor, be sure to pay attention to its power rating. To ensure optimal drilling conditions, a 0.5 horsepower motor will suffice.

Power regulation is carried out using a gearbox. A flange must be attached to the gearbox shaft. Attach another flange to the flange with bolts. There should be a rubber washer between these two flanges. Thanks to the rubber gasket, shock loads that appear when passing through different types of soil will be smoothed out.

Fourth step

Connect water. Fluid must be continuously supplied to the main working tool by means of a drill. Without a properly organized water supply, the quality of the equipment will decrease.

The problem mentioned above can be solved by installing a special device made of steel pipe below the flanges. Prepare 2 holes in the pipe section with some shift in relation to each other.

Next, you need to make a groove on both end sides of the pipe for arranging ball bearings. You must also prepare an inch thread. At one end, the pipe is connected to the flange, and working elements will be installed at its other end.

In order to create additional moisture insulation of the created device, place it in a special polypropylene tee. Connect an adapter to the middle of this tee to connect the water supply hose.

In general, the assembly process of most of the existing varieties of drilling rigs remains the same. The frame and other elements of the structure under consideration are prepared in a similar way. Only the main working tool of the mechanism can change.

Using such an installation is very simple: you first manually create a recess in the drilling site with a diameter greater than the diameter of the working cartridge, and then begin to alternately raise and lower the cartridge into the hole until the required depth is reached.

The main working element of such a mechanism is the drill.

Make a drill from a metal pipe with a diameter of 100 mm. Make a screw thread on the top of the workpiece, and equip an auger drill on the opposite side of the pipe. The optimal drill diameter for a homemade unit is about 200 mm. A couple of turns is enough.

Attach a pair of metal knives to the ends of the workpiece by welding. You must fix them in such a way that at the time of the vertical placement of the installation, the knives are located at a certain angle to the soil.

To work with such an installation was most convenient, connect a piece of metal pipe 1.5 m long to the tee. Fix it by welding.

Inside the tee must be equipped with a screw thread. Screw the tee itself onto a piece of a collapsible one and a half meter rod.

It is most convenient to use such an installation together - each worker will be able to take on a one and a half meter pipe.

Drilling is performed in the following order:


Repeat the cycle until you reach about a meter deepening. After the bar will have to be lengthened with an additional piece of metal pipe. A coupling is used to fasten pipes.

If it is planned to arrange a well deeper than 800 cm, fix the structure on a tripod. At the top of such a tower there should be a hole large enough for the unhindered movement of the rod.

In the process of drilling, the rod will need to be periodically increased. With an increase in the length of the tool, the mass of the structure will also increase significantly, it will become very difficult to manage it manually. Percussion drilling

The shock-rope installation consists of a pyramidal support frame with a rope fixed on its top. A heavy load in the form of a glass is attached to the rope, which, when falling from a height, produces a ground impact. Under the influence of gravity, the glass sinks into the ground. Then the glass is removed from the well, freed from the accumulated earth and the operation is repeated until the aquifer is reached. The remains of excess soil in the well are washed out with water from the reached aquifer.

The weight of the load reaches several tens of kilograms, so a manual or electric winch is used to lift it. You can lift and muscle strength. The load is released using a special clutch.

In this way, making a well is long and laborious, but the cost of materials for its manufacture is low.

It will take only a few metal corners, a pulley, pipes and a rope. Welding work can be performed even by a novice welder. Another advantage of the shock-rope method is that when a well is drilled, its walls are not destroyed, but compacted. This method can be applied in the absence of rocks.

Screw installation

The working tool of the screw installation is an improved Archimedes screw. The basis of the screw is a pipe with a cutter at the end. The soil loosened by the cutter rises up along the auger blades. If you use drills with auger along the entire length and increase the length of the auger during drilling, then all the waste earth will be fed directly to the surface.

The drive for the screw can be any engine with a gearbox. In shallow wells, the auger can even be rotated manually.

There are areas in which there are many inclusions of hard rocks or stones. In these cases, it will be more efficient to use installations with rotary bits. A rotating carbide crown is located at the end of the bit. When the drill rotates, the crown destroys the soil, which is removed from the well with water. This is a very effective method, but to give the drill the necessary rotational speed, you will have to use a powerful engine.

The soil washed out during drilling must be removed from the site so as not to turn the site into a swamp. In addition, the installation has a large volume and weighs a lot. Moving it around the site is difficult. For the manufacture of such a drilling machine, high precision machining of parts is required.

Do-it-yourself drilling rig

Having assessed the complexity of manufacturing a home-made installation for a well device, we can dwell on the first two types of structures: shock-rope or auger. The assembly time in both cases is comparable, but the second option will cost a little more. The percussion method of drilling takes a lot of time, but is much simpler than auger drilling. It makes sense to dwell on it if there is no time limit and the installation will be used only once. Another method will require the manufacture or purchase of screws, but the design can be used repeatedly.

How to assemble a percussion rope installation

The basis of this design is the support frame. The shape of the frame can be rectangular or pyramidal. A pulley is attached to the top of the triangular pyramid, through which a rope or steel cable is passed. One end of the rope is wound on a winch fixed on one side of the base of the pyramid. A bailer is attached to the second end of the rope. The bailer is the working part of the installation, it is a hollow thick-walled pipe, on the upper side of which there is a load. The lower end of the bailer is desirable to sharpen. The sharpening may, for example, be serrated or have a sharp edge. The length of the pipe is selected in the range from 1 to 2 meters.

The frame structure can be welded or collapsible. If it is possible to dismantle the unit, then its mobility will increase and the space for its storage will decrease. The frame can be made of pipes or corners.

To facilitate the lifting of the bailer from a great depth, you can use an electric winch. Most importantly, the winch must have a device for easy and safe release of the cable.

The sketch of the equipment should be thought out to the smallest detail.

The work of the drum set is that, under the influence of the force of gravity, a heavy projectile falls to the ground and punches a recess in it. The greater the weight of the projectile, the deeper the well becomes in one cycle of work. To speed up penetration, a small amount of water can be added to the hole. Using a casing pipe with a diameter slightly larger than the bailer, the drilling of the well is combined with its strengthening.

During the breakdown, earth is stuffed into the glass of the bailer, which has to be knocked out every time. It is desirable to mount a check valve at the bottom of the pipe so that loose soil remains inside when it rises to the surface. The design of the clan is a round petal that rotates inside the pipe, without interfering with filling its cavity with earth. When the bailer is removed, the valve closes, preventing the soil from spilling back into the well.

The sinking process turns out to be very long, so this method is used quite rarely, although it has been known for a long time.

Homemade screw installation

Auger drilling requires a support structure. Its shape is often chosen pyramidal as the most convenient. The number of supports is chosen three or four. The design of the bed is almost similar to the shock-rope installation. It also has a pulley and a winch. The main difference between the two methods is the working tool for drilling.

The basis of the auger drill is a pipe, the diameter of which is approximately two times smaller than the size of the well. A helical lobe is welded along the outer surface of the pipe, which is necessary for grinding and removing soil. A hard steel chisel is located at the lower end of the pipe. This bit produces the initial crushing of the rock. At the top end of the pipe there is a thread for attaching the rod.

The rod consists of several sections of a thick-walled pipe with a diameter of 50-60 mm. The sections of the rod are interconnected by threaded couplings.

The rotation of the auger is carried out with the help of a swivel, which is put on the rod. Swivel - a thick-walled ring with holes for rotary handles. The swivel is clamped on the rod, handles are inserted into its holes, and driving begins by turning it clockwise.

As the auger sinks into the ground, the waste rock rises up along its blades. A multiple stackable auger design would be ideal. Then all the crushed soil would immediately rise to the surface. However, it is expensive and the weight of the tool becomes truly unbearable. Therefore, it is not the screws that are lengthened, but the rods.

As long as the depth of the drilled well does not exceed 8-10 meters, the auger can be rotated and lifted manually. At greater depths, additional mechanisms have to be used.

The rotation of the screw is carried out by an internal combustion engine or an electric motor. The speed of rotation of the engine is reduced by the gearbox, and the torque increases. It is also desirable to equip the winch with an electric drive to facilitate lifting.

Having deepened the well by several meters, the auger is removed to remove the waste soil. Then the cycle is repeated until the aquifer is reached.

The cost of drilling and arranging a well by third-party organizations exceeds 2,000 rubles per 1 meter of depth. A home-made installation, even if you use purchased parts, will cost several times less. We must not forget about the time and effort spent. Stage one.

For the main part of the drilling special mechanism, it is required to prepare several pieces of pipe, which must be fastened into a cross and a drive. To do this, you will need to cut a thread about two centimeters in size at the edges of the pipes. Weld pointed metal plates to the segments, these will be tips.

Installation implies a stable supply of water, as a result of which a deepening occurs and the earth is removed. In order for water to be supplied, attach a hose to any of the holes in the cross blank.

Stage two.

It's time to connect the elements of our design to the threaded connections. The lower end of the pipe must be connected to the blank part, which has a sharp tip, with the help of a drive. Realize the drilling process by deepening the pointed tip by turning the working system.

Stage three.

The square section profile will be the basis of this design, which is a rack with supports.

Using welding, connect the supports to the main rack. The platform and the motor are fixed with a square profile, which is fixed with the possibility of moving along the rack.

Choose an electric motor that has 0.5 horsepower. Power is controlled by means of a gearbox.

We attach the flange to the gearbox shaft, then the next flange, between them there will be a rubber washer.

Stage four.

Turn on the water, which must be continuously supplied to the main working element. If the fluid supply is not created correctly, the quality of activity will decrease. To prevent deterioration in quality, it is necessary to install a special device under the flanges, which is made of a steel pipe. Make a couple of holes offset from each other. Then it is necessary to make a groove for ball bearings on the end sides of the pipe. The pipe is connected to the flange on one side, and the main working components are installed on the other.

Drilling system with "cartridge"

The main working component is a cartridge made from a pipe with a diameter of 100-120 mm. The best tool length is 100-200 cm. Metal knives are fixed to the workpiece by welding. For convenience, attach a piece of pipe with a length of 1.5 m, secure by welding.
