Cystitis is a disease characterized by inflammatory processes of the mucous membrane of the bladder, accompanied by a disorder of its functions. The patient suffers from pain in the lower abdomen, frequent and useless trips to the toilet, and discomfort when urinating.

One of the reasons for the onset of the disease is the systematic use of food that is dangerous for the patient. Thoughtful medical nutrition helps to reduce the manifestation of negative symptoms - intoxication, irritation of the inner surface of the organ, the spread of pathogenic microflora.

A diet for cystitis will help reduce or prevent the appearance of calculi in the kidneys and urine excretion channels that destroy the mucous membrane, and increase the activity of drugs.

The primary task of dietary nutrition is to relieve irritation of the inner lining of the bladder and provide the body with light foods that cleanse it. Particular attention is paid to dishes with the capabilities of diuretics, since with a large amount of urine, the infection is washed out of the inflamed bladder. This speeds up the patient's recovery.

V initial stage ailment, medical nutrition is perhaps the main factor in a quick recovery without complications. It is necessary to adhere to the recommended diet for a sufficiently long time, and not only during an exacerbation of a chronic disease or acute cystitis.

Proper food is also a medicine that helps to strengthen the immune system, actively fighting bacteria to restore the working capacity of the most important organ of the excretory system.

The main principles on which the diet is based:

Food must be cooked in a double boiler or oven, fried, smoked products are excluded from the menu.

Diet for acute cystitis

Acute cystitis is understood as purulent inflammation of the inner lining of the bladder, accompanied by burning sensation and pain, especially at the end of the urinary excretion process. The urge to empty the bladder occurs constantly, sometimes they are false: urine is excreted in small portions or not at all.

Painful sensations in the lower abdomen accompany the patient constantly. In the acute stage of cystitis, the temperature can rise to 37.5 °. Similar symptoms are observed within a week, then gradually disappear. Without adequate treatment of inflammation, the pathology can be complicated by other diseases of the small pelvis, become chronic.

A diet for acute cystitis is aimed at flushing the urinary tract to quickly remove the infection. An equally important goal of dietary nutrition will be the prevention of irritation of the inner cavity of the bladder.

After stopping the attack with drugs and stabilizing the condition, it is necessary to adjust the food intake regimen:

Features of the diet for chronic cystitis

Chronic cystitis is characterized by a wide variety of manifestations, among which there is an exacerbation in the form of an acute form. Common signs are a feeling of heaviness in the pelvis. The feeling of a full organ is accompanied by constant urges, but often they turn out to be false. If a small portion of urine is released, it may change color and odor, and bloody discharge may appear.

In the chronic form of cystitis, the muscular layer of the organ is constantly in an inflamed state, swells, ulcers appear on the mucous membrane (in the presence of stones), ulcers are gradually replaced by scars, the bladder loses its shape, decreases in volume.

The diet at this stage of the disease should also support a weakened body, enhance the diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties of drugs.

Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract lead to the absorption of toxins into the bloodstream, followed by irritation of the mucous membrane of the urinary tract. It is useful to include a handful of pine nuts in the daily menu and olive oil(1 table l.).

Products that are aggressive to the mucous membrane are excluded from the menu:

  1. Strong broths, canned food, pickles;
  2. Condiments, spices that increase blood flow;
  3. Vegetables that irritate the mucous membrane;
  4. Fruits with a sour taste complement the blacklist.

For children, cystitis is a common disease. It can even develop in newborns if the pregnant woman has not eliminated her infections in time. Girls, due to their anatomical features, are 5 times more susceptible to this pathology than boys. Features of the body structure create all the conditions for quick and unhindered infection.

Common signs of "childhood" cystitis are complaints of cutting burning pain in the lower abdomen, aggravated by urine, as well as a change in its color, odor, and degree of transparency. The temperature may rise to subfebrile levels, the child has weakness.

With cystitis, the diet for girls is similar to that of women:

  • Unsweetened fermented milk products;
  • Cereals on the water;
  • Fruits and vegetables with diuretic properties;
  • Lean fish and meat;
  • Drink plenty of drinks (tea, juice, compote without sweeteners), as well as alkaline mineral water;
  • For the treatment of cystitis, herbal teas from ready-made or own collections are used. For infusions, you can take seeds of flax, hemp and pumpkin, chamomile and linden flowers, leaves of wild rosemary, St. John's wort, blackberry. A decoction is prepared according to this recipe: dill seeds, birch leaf, licorice root and yarrow herb.

The diet for cystitis in children involves gentle heat treatment of foods. To save everyone useful properties it is better to cook food in a double boiler, microwave or oven. Fried, canned and salted foods are excluded.

You should also control the fat content of milk and meat. Sweets, cakes, and other confectionery products should be replaced with sweet fruits, honey, marshmallows, marmalade, non-acidic jam.

Features of nutrition with radiation cystitis

Radiation cystitis is a complication provoked by radiation in cancer problems in abdominal cavity... Radiation therapy of an ionizing nature provokes a change in the walls of blood vessels and the epithelium of the inner surface of the organ, accompanied by a disorder of its functions. The nutrition of the mucous membrane gradually deteriorates, ulcers and scars appear on its surface.

With radiation cystitis, the emphasis in the diet should be on:

The norm of vitamin C in this disease is increased - up to 500 g per day. Natural ascorbic acid, which is rich in cranberries, has bacteriostatic capabilities.

In addition, it has other advantages: benzoic and gipuric acids, which accelerate the healing of the mucous membrane. Cranberry processing products can change the composition of urine, making it unsuitable for the reproduction of pathogenic microflora. The berry is also useful for the prevention of inflammation. genitourinary system... Lingonberry is considered to be no less valuable natural medicine.

The following were included in the "black" list for such a severe form of cystitis:

Any damage to the inner surface of the organ leads to the activation of dysuric properties: urinary incontinence, frequent and painful urge to go to the toilet.

Diet for cystitis complicated by urethritis

Urethritis is an inflammation of the urinary tract of an infectious or non-infectious nature. The disease can be recognized by unpleasant sensations at the time of urine discharge: burning pain, discomfort, mainly at the initial stage of the process. With urethritis, the discharge will be mucous, with a repulsive odor, a bluish-greenish tint.

Urethritis and cystitis are interdependent pathologies, they often occur in parallel. The infection, which increases its activity during inflammatory processes in the bladder, can spread to other organs, including the urethra, where inflammation develops rapidly. In turn, infection of the urinary tract provokes the development of cystitis.

In the diet for such a complication, it is necessary to include products with the effects of an antiseptic and a diuretic. This contributes to the suppression of pathogenic microflora. By washing the inflamed areas abundantly with a non-aggressive liquid, inflammation can be stopped.

An important point to consider when compiling a menu is to reduce the burden on the kidneys. The basis of such nutrition will be natural products without GMOs, preservatives, flavor enhancers, dyes and other chemical additives.

Before a change in eating behavior, the patient is prescribed an examination. If, during a series of analyzes for a month, an excess of salts (urates, oxolates, phosphates) is observed in the urine, the diet must take into account the acidity of the urine. Urates are formed in acidic urine, oxalates in neutral urine, and phosphates in alkaline urine. For acidic urine with urates, dairy products, sweet fruits are recommended. Meat, legumes, sour and seafood should be excluded.

With the accumulation of phosphates in an alkaline environment, it is necessary to reduce the proportion of alkalizing substances. Shown are eggs, meat, cereals and seafood. If excess oxalate is detected, the build-up of oxalic acid should be reduced. For this, citrus fruits, blackberries, herbs, strawberries, cranberries, cocoa are excluded from the diet.

The volume of urine (diuresis) in all cases should be at least 1.5 liters per day. Recommended products with a high concentration of magnesium, which reduces the crystallization of urine salts (oats, buckwheat, millet). The activity of antimicrobial drugs changes when the acid-base balance of urine changes. If it is above 7 units, the activity of biseptol, gentamicin and lincomycin increases.

If the indicator is below 5, ampicillin, nitroxoline, norfloxacin, nitrofurans are better. By controlling the diet, you can enhance the result of antimicrobial treatment.

Diet for cystitis in women

The female half of humanity is faced with this unpleasant disease 6 times more often than the male, and this indicator does not depend on age. The structure of the body makes it easier for bladder infections. The urinary tract in women is wider than in men, and they are located closer to the vagina and anus. All this contributes to the unhindered penetration of harmful bacteria.

In addition, women can develop cystitis when:

  1. Clean water (in case of exacerbation, it must be replaced with mineral water, with calcium chloride) - up to 2.5 liters per day before and after meals, in between meals, before bedtime and urination, as well as at night;
  2. Fermented milk products;
  3. Herbal teas with antibacterial and diuretic properties;
  4. Lots of raw food in the form of vegetables and fruits;
  5. Porridge, bran, wholemeal bread.

The daily menu must include first courses without meat. Small portions of food can be taken only after the temperature has returned to normal, since fever inhibits the activity of digestive enzymes and there will be little sense from such food.

Alcohol, salty, spicy and fried foods, fast food, sour fruits, with the exception of cranberries, should be excluded from the medical menu.

The volume of liquid food is recommended in the absence of decompensated heart and renal failure. The diet for cystitis in men does not fundamentally differ from women's medical nutrition, only the reasons that provoked the disease can be different.

Considering all the dietary recommendations for cystitis in women, consider the menu option. The main principle medical nutrition - enrichment of the diet with sufficient diuretic products and a volume of liquid.

Food should be from natural products, fresh, with a minimum amount of salt and fat. An oven, a double boiler, a microwave oven are more suitable for heat treatment. Dairy products are shown, sweets, baked goods are contraindicated, meat and fish are limited (traces of processing proteins of animal origin aggravate intoxication).

Instead of sugar and other sweeteners, you should choose honey, spicy dishes and canned food are also prohibited.

Of course, such a serious illness cannot always be cured by diet alone. But nutritional therapy should be perceived as an important component of the complex therapy of cystitis, accelerating recovery and consolidating the result.

Some women neglect a balanced diet during cystitis, not seeing the need for it. And, as it turned out, in vain. As a result of many years of research, a direct relationship was found between inflammation of the bladder and the symbiosis of vaginal microorganisms. And the vital activity of the latter largely depends on the diet.

General principles of the diet

A diet for cystitis is necessary. But it should be not just a balanced and nutritious diet, but the most gentle diet aimed at eliminating inflammation and improving urine outflow. It is recommended to remove from the diet all irritating foods containing a large amount essential oils and acids.

It is also necessary to observe the principle of fractional nutrition - eat food 4-5 times a day, in small portions, and drink more between meals.

It is especially important to stick to a diet with exacerbation of cystitis. In this case, a properly selected diet will reduce the intoxication of the body, slow down the development of bacteria and prevent the disease from going into a chronic stage. If the worst does happen and the disease is already running, the diet will prevent exacerbation and reduce the frequency of relapses.

To get the maximum therapeutic effect from the diet, food for cystitis should be boiled, stewed or baked. Fried, pickled and smoked foods will only worsen the condition.

Duration of the diet

If cystitis has passed into the chronic stage, the diet will have to be followed for life. It is not as severe as with inflammation of the kidneys and does not require treatment table # 7. However, there should be dietary restrictions.

In acute cystitis, the diet will be needed for the entire duration of treatment and for another 14–20 days after recovery. In general, with a tendency to frequent inflammation of the bladder, it is better to avoid excesses and adhere to the rules of a healthy diet as long as possible.

Allowed Products

What can you drink and eat for the sick? In general, the set of acceptable and healthy dishes for cystitis is quite wide. The list includes:

  • vegetables and fruits;
  • fresh herbs from the garden;
  • fermented milk products;
  • cereals;
  • lean meat and fish, chicken;
  • berries (especially lingonberries and cranberries);
  • dried fruits and nuts;
  • vegetable oils and animal fats.

Prohibited foods for chronic cystitis:

  • smoked, fried and canned foods;
  • ready-made semi-finished products, fast foods, food with dyes, flavors and other harmful additives;
  • margarine, cooking oil, lard;
  • any alcohol, kvass, carbonated water;
  • sugar, chocolate, baked goods.

It is clear that it is unlikely that it will be possible to completely remove prohibited foods from the diet, but it is necessary to stop using them at least with an exacerbation of cystitis.

What other dishes should not be eaten by patients with prolonged inflammation? Patients who are constantly haunted by discomfort in urinary tract and urination disorder, it is better to give up citrus fruits, sour fruits, grapes.

Preference should be given to neutral-tasting boiled or baked food. In the chronic form of cystitis in women, it is useful to include in the diet more fiber, whole grains, wheat bran, lactic acid products, and regularly take diuretic and anti-inflammatory preparations.

Sample menu for a week

Guided by the list of permitted and healthy dishes for cystitis, you can independently compose a medical menu. It is better to develop it immediately for a week - this way it is more convenient to purchase the necessary products and calculate the nutritional value of the diet.

It is necessary to try to include in the diet a sufficient amount of light protein-containing meals (1.0-1.5 g of protein per 1 kg of body weight) and vegetables. As for fats, it is not advisable to overload the diet with them, nor to exclude them. This is the most important construction material for the endocrine organs in women, however, it is better to remove coarse fats from the menu.

If there are no kidney and cardiovascular diseases, you need to drink more with cystitis. Experts recommend including at least two liters of fluid per day in your diet. It can be infusions and decoctions of diuretic herbs, compotes and jelly from apples, cranberries, lingonberries. Mineral water without gas washes well pathogenic microorganisms from the bladder. You can use it 2-3 times a day, slightly warming up.

Tea with milk is very useful for cystitis. The mechanism of its action is unknown, but the drink works great as a diuretic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent.

Are there any differences in diet for men and women?

The diet for cystitis in men and women has some differences. Representatives of the stronger sex usually suffer from a secondary infection that has penetrated into the bladder from nearby organs - the prostate and seminal ducts. Therefore, the diet in men should be aimed at reducing inflammation in the genitourinary system.

In women, cystitis occurs much faster and more often. The reason for this is the structural features - in young ladies, the length of the urethra is 5 times shorter and its lumen is much wider than in men. Inflammation of the bladder in the fair sex is more severe, rather becomes chronic with constant exacerbations. Therefore, the list of foods that cannot be eaten in women is much wider, and the diet for cystitis is stricter. First of all, this applies to the acute form of the disease.

Experts are confident that adherence to the recommendations for therapeutic nutrition in case of inflammation of the bladder will ease the course of the disease and prevent its transition to a chronic form. If the disease is already running and suffers from constant relapses, the diet will reduce their frequency and improve the quality of life. But it will take a long time to adhere to the specified diet.
