Mexicans use this tortilla not only for preparing various dishes, for them tortilla is a plate, fork and spoon in one person. Almost any Mexican dish can be laid out on a tortilla and eaten with the same tortilla, you can scoop up the sauce with it, hold a piece of meat and extinguish the flame in your mouth, raging from a small chili pepper. Traditionally, tortillas are baked over an open fire in earthenware pans called comal, but this is done in Mexico, which is far from us. We lean towards the latter and suggest that you start your burrito by making a tortilla.

To make a tortilla at home, you will need 2 cups of cornmeal, 1 teaspoon of salt, 50 grams of lard or margarine, and about a glass and a quarter of hot water. Pour the flour into a deep bowl, add salt to it and stir. Grate lard or margarine on a coarse grater and add to the flour. Stir and begin to rub the flour and lard with your hands until the mass begins to crumble. Then pour hot water in a thin stream, remembering to stir the dough, until it becomes soft and plastic. Add a little more flour and knead the dough, separate 10-12 pieces and cover with a warm, damp towel for a few minutes. Roll each piece of dough into a ball. Sprinkle flour on the board and use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a very thin cake. Heat a cast iron skillet, reduce heat, and without adding any oil, fry each flatbread on both sides for about 30-40 seconds. Cover the finished tortillas with a towel.

We take out the burrito from the microwave (or oven). On top we apply a pattern with mayonnaise and ketchup.

Recipe 2: Mexican turkey burrito with cheese

  • 200 gr. Turkey fillet
  • 2 pcs. Tortilla
  • 50 gr. Greenery
  • 80 gr. Tomato puree
  • 50 gr. Cheese
  • Pepper
  • 80 gr. Beans
  • 50 gr. Bulb
  • Chili powder

Remove the veins from the meat and cut into small, oblong pieces.

After that, it is necessary to fry the chicken pieces together with finely chopped garlic, until the meat appears golden brown.
